DD you have wayyyyyyy too much time on your hands today
I think what he's REALLY worried about is that this topic might surpass his about rigging boats.:D:D
I think he just likes to pick on newbys :D he has been picking on me for a year and a half now. Next he will try to con you into buying lunch. :D
Maj did you get your Bandits in yet?
keep an eye on Ebay and like Wannabe said, a couple of the Bass Forums. I actually have a little work right now THANK GOODNESS, so I'll be busy and won't have time to keep my boy straight. GOOD LUCK today hehe
I ordered four line counter reels from Franks on 1-12-10, they said that they were backordered, but I called them today and they couldn't give me a date to expect delivery and didn't return my call with the details. I e-mailed them and told them to cancel my order(was too late to phone).:( Next, I went on line to Northwoods and couldn't get there stinking web site to take my password!!:mad:Even tried to start over but kept getting the message that my e-mail address was already listed. Finally phoned them & they couldn't even take my order until tomorrow morning. I love new tech stuff, but this is beginning to get my goat!! :(:( Trying to spend this economy back into a recovery by myself but they won't let me!:eek:
Ain't it a dadgummed bummer when you want to buy something and nobody will sell it to ya.....sheeeesh!
Maj you sure don't do anything half way do you.
You know what they say.....the one that dies with the most toys wins. :D
gotta admit...I like your style Maj!
18 pages and counting, is this a new record? Don Don whats the rush on the reels trolling time is months away.
After reading some of Yikes posts and seeing him starting at 60 degrees pulling, I'm Thinking about running some 200's during the Spawn at the rez. Usually I fish around the Pelahatchie Causeway a good bit due to the wind and that'd let me cover water faster. I usually get on them around 5-8 foot deep in 10-12 FOW so a 200 back say 50-75 feet outta do the trick
I have maybe 10-12 200's that I use on ross barnett. I don't need to run over 12 foot deep on the rez due to the thermocline in the summer and want to get the bait on back away from the boat so I use the 200's to get that done. This spring I'm gonna TRY it during the spawn, well, latter spawn when the water warms on up in the mod 60's. May work and may not work but least I'll know.
Maj, they forgot to tell you to remove the hooks. Crappie will swallow the bait and no need for hooks. lol
DonDon your giving away all the secrets. For goodness sake don't mention the 100's close to the bank during spawn.
Yikess, you're not helping.:)
Me and Torch have replaced all our Trebble hooks with RED ones.
Boy this post just goes on and on and on --on the 19th page WB!!!!
So Maj, you bought some 200 series bandits? What number would you say a person should get? I have never used crank baits for crappie, but I promise myself to give it a try soon. I'm going to bps in the next few days and purchase a few. :)
EZ, it all depends on the places ya gonna fish. Deep water lakes or the REZ. 300 bandits will run the deepest and are used in the summer and fall when the crappie go deep.. In spring to summer when they are not as deep a lot will run200 series to keep the bait away from the boat( further back). Colors are to the customer pref. black, pink ,ole miss, mad cow , mistake just to name a few.. have fun.......
Well, you know the definition of a boat...... a hole in the water you keep pouring money into....
Hey, thanks for the info, I'll be at bps when they open Friday....
When you go buy the red hooks Maj....be sure to get a good pair of split ring pliers...the cheapos just don't get it.
Red hooks aren't a MUST but they do help the bite somewhat. Take a black 300 and with the regular hooks, nothing special but add red hooks and it stands out, something about what the fish are seeing. I CHEAT though if I don;t have red hooks and what I do DOES WORK, tried it several times last year by putting 2 of the same cranks out at the same depth and my little trick beat it 2 to 1. Anyways, you're in for a treat when it's all said and done Maj cause there ain't nothing like have 8 poles out and look up and have 5 or 6 fish on at one time.
8 poles out, 5 or 6 fish on at a time:eek::eek: Doesn't that get a bit complicated? Do you keep the boat running same speed, slow down or stop?
Whatever you do...DON'T stop!!!!
Maj, 8 poles is pushing it. I usually run 3 down each side, that is plenty to handle and a lot less headache. If ya get multiples on just pick one and reel it in, then go to the next one. Generally with a mouth full of trebels, their not going anywhere.
Thanks feelay. I plan to start with 4 poles out, 2 on each side. I'll take it easy until I get the hang of it.
I agree ...... 6 poles is plenty, you dont need anymore confusion than that.
4 is plenty. Anymore than that and you'll work yourself to death. I pull 8 when I can but you WILL get tangles so just don;t let your temper get to ya when you do. Just stay calm, reel the tangled one's in and just retie your cranks. Like Feelay said DON'T STOP, that's just a tangle waiting to happen. Ya get hung up on a stump? Just keep going and hope you get your crank back. That's one reason I use braided line, I don;t lose as many 5 dollar cranks
4-6 poles are plenty if you are fishing alone. If I have someone with me I will pull 8 sometimes.
