I just gt started pulling cranks with what i had laying around but want to get stuff just for pulling I am going to use 4 six foot medium action rods and 2 twelve foot BPS tight lines any suggestions on the six footers ?
16, 12 and 8 out each side
And 2 out the back as long as you arent on Grenada.
Thanks for the input but that's not what I am asking I am gonn run 4 six footers and 2 12 foot but with I want to know is what is a good 6 foot pole for trolling cranks?
I am gonna ru 2 six out the back 2 off the side and 2 12 off the side.
An ugly stick.
Yea that's what I was thanking to you thank med will be ok or do I need to go with a med heavy?
Well I too blame DonDon.. He posted a picture of some stripers he caught and now I got the trolling bug for stripers and crappie. I have read all 57 pages of this topic at least once... bought a couple new reels, got some rod holders ordered, and bought about 20-30 bandit 300 series cranks! I look forward to learning more about trolling.

Good luck DG00
LOL darn sure is some fun. Catch some crappie and stripers for dinner and those stripers pull like you ain;t never had nothing pull before
Lots of good info here.
Going to try it pretty soon.
Anybody got any bad crankin' stories. I had a couple bad experiences last year. I had one tangle that looked like Marg Simpsons hair. Had one hang up with 5 poles in a hard wind that ended up turrible. I have no pics, but I'm pretty sure it happened cause I wake up in a cold sweat after having a nightmares about it:D
Reason it came to mind was I got a hook under my fingernail this morning from a thrashing crappie. I was by myself, so I cried just a little bit:o
I envy those who have it all under control.
RCC I haven't pulled cranks yet, but stay tuned, I'm sure I will have some stories soon. :D
I've had all four lines tangle together. Nothing to do but cut the Bandits off & start over.:(
I like to put an inline swivel about 6 to 8 ft in front of bandit helps them to run truer and if a line catches that front hook you'll get a lot of twist in your line. When i'm pushing instead of pulling i put the weight above the swivel.
hey are magda 20dx too big for pullin cranks? or are the 15s just perfect?
Wannabe can you post some pic of your setup. you have all the answer I would like to see just how you have your setup!!
Pretty unremarkable Midnight. Currently, I have 2 4 pole holders on the back from EZ Holders and a pair of 4 pole customs on the front. When I pull by myself, I use the back deck and pull with my Terrova. If I have multiple people, I'll fill the back with rods and put up to 4 more on the front and short line something different.
Can't really post pics yet, as my EZs are prototypes and Gene doesn't want pics out there until the design is final.
On my last boat, I had the 4 customs up front and 2 Driftmasters midship and I would sit at the console and pull. Kind of missing that set up currently, but my boat has dual consoles now so it would make it tough to fish from the driving seats. Still might give it a shot with some extra base plates I've got for the EZs.

I do in fact have all the answers....just very few right answers. :)
can run what I want out the sides and have room for days to walk around, grab the green cup out of the full sized cooler. Then have the Bimini top up to get out of the sun when pulling or pushing cranks
That's true DD, but then again, I'm a lot prettier than you so I've got that going for me.

I'm so purdy that I have to wear an ugly mask to keep all the chics off'n me
Oh, so that's a mask then. Bet it gets hot under there this time of the year with you wearing it 24x7.

Gets Stuffy for sure
what fishing line was it you said to use again wb?
I'm runnng several at the moment. Can't helpself. I like to experiment. Trilent big game. Wally marshal and pline cxx. Hard to go wrong with stren hi vis gold in 10# though or regular stren if you don't like hi vis. Pretty much anything will work in 10# though. But it's beat to settle on one and stick to it so all baits will run the same way. You just want a tough, relatively cheap line that has low memory and I prefer hi vis. Suffix elite is a good one but kind of pricey although their hi vis is really medium vis. Some run braids, some run 12# though.

I tried a new line setup last weekend and it seemed to work well. I had lost a couple of cranks due to catfish getting caught and then on the retrival wrapping up in my line and nicking or abrading the line with their fins. So to combat this I now have a three foot leader of 20# test PowerPro braid tied to a barrel swivel and then to my main line. Seems to work good so far I have caught several more catfish and have not lost any more baits. It also looks like the catfish slime wont stick to the braid as bad either.
That Catfish slime. YUCK, won't come off the line NOR your hands
thanks wb and slabo for the tips. when yall talk about tune crankbaits just what are you talking about?
Midnight, on the bill of the crank there is a split ring you tie to. That split ring is attached to a metal loop that's molded into the bill (well, most are designed that way). When we say tuning, we're talking about bending that metal loop left or right to change how well the bait will track as it's being pulled. Most bandits run pretty well out of the package. A few have been plum awful pulling left or right until they roll on me. To fix that, you bend the loop to the opposite way it's running ie if it runs right, bend left. Careful though, a little bend goes a long long way and they are really hard to get tuned to be perfect. I've got a couple that it seems no matter what I do, I just can't get 'em straightened out......I've put them in the give to DD pile. He won't know the difference anyhow. :)

I'll see which way they turn and put them on that side of the boat on the long rod to get the bait out further.
Good info on this thread. Yall got me bit by the bug now. Lookin into takin out a loan now ha. Reckon six grand will be enough to get started? haha
Just do like I do and use only braid.
