No problems to date, they seem to be a good composite body reel and for the price it is hard to go wrong. Of course it is just like anything else if you lay them in the bottom of the boat and get sand and dirt and grime in them I'm sure you may have some problems. how important is it to have a baitcaster style reel when pulling cranks? I'm just getting into crappie fishing and all of the rods I would use for crappies are spinning reels. I guess I have one baitcaster on a medium action rod I would use for crappies...but the rest are on spinning rods and reels. please forgive the ignorance of this question! lol

Yeppers and it worked great at first then kinda fell off near the end of the season.
I bought several Zebco 33's and other than having to count line 5, 10, 15, 20 etc. they work great. I've had zero problems and If one does go out while I'm fishing, I keep an extra one on board already lined up. At 12-15 bucks each, I can afford that

Doop, baitcasters are not required.........however, they're generally more durable, have more cranking power for hauling in fish, more line capacity, and they're a bit easier to handle when free spooling line out. That being said, you could use an empy peanut can if ya wanted and it'd be fine. A full peanut can would just be plain silly though.

Right now most everybody is spider rigging either jigs and minners or straight minners. There's prolly some die hards out there that are single poling deep structure though.
Got a buddy here in Grenada that was still pulling Cranks Dec 1 and catching some fish though, but the majority will wait to pull a crank starting in June through maybe October.

Close to being true on the statement "pull fast enough to give the baits the proper action." Sometimes they want it abit faster. I've caught them as fast as 3.4 MPH. More of a "hey, there's something in front of me, I think I'll eat it" type reaction bite than anything else

I had ONE jig pole on Sunday until it was sacrificed to the lake gods via commercial fishing net. LOL
Sly I fished for four hrs today and caught one crappie. A good one mind you, but still only one. Had out two 12' rods with slip-bobbers and minnows and two 10' rods tightlining minnows. I really wouldn't want to see you duplicate my effort of today.:confused:Quote:
