What kind of finder are you installing? And, don't pull a DonDon and put the ducer mount on upsidedown.;)

I finished it all up this afternoon/evening! I just need to plug her in and check it out. I replaced an old transducer on the transom with a new one that works with my humminbird 525. I also mounted a second "mount" on the top of my console where the original old f/f mount was, and ran a new power supply.
The guy who had this boat had rigged this 525 to mount on the front of the boat so he could see it while trolling. He ran an outrigger pole about 6 feet in front of the boat that the original transducer is mounted on. Kinda neat when you are trolling, but you can't see water depth while cruising across the lake as you have to pull in the outrigger thing!! Hence..adding this other one where a different, original, older model hbird and transducer were mounted. Unfotunately, none of those brackets or wires/plugs were compatible with this 525. I'll try and take a pic and post it.
.....think I've got a bad ground to my fuse panel. sighhhh...... It's late. I'll find it tomorrow!
If you were going to buy some new poles for pulling crankbaits....what would you reccomend? What lengths etc. Where would you get them?
G-3, I really like my Shakespere 12' Graphite Crappie Hunters. I've never pulled cranks before but will be this year when water temp gets to 60. I got mine at Academy. I plan to start out with 4 rods two 12' & two 10' and go from there. I'm still re-reading this thread to learn as much as I can. Still not sure on the line, I've read a lot about mono and braid, but still undecided.
That depends. Have you decided if your going to push from the front, pull down the sides or off the back?
Yikess, I'll be pulling from the back to start with, had two sets of rod holders make for that purpose just a couple days ago.
I will be pulling of of the back on large lakes. I am thinking...three rods on each side at the back of the boat. On smaller lakes I will be pushing cranks from the front.
"The guy who had this boat had rigged this 525 to mount on the front of the boat so he could see it while trolling. He ran an outrigger pole about 6 feet in front of the boat that the original transducer is mounted on"
There is a guy here that has a pontoon that does the same thing, pole mounted transducer, at least thats what I think is on that pole off the front. Don't know how it works. I have 2 DF's on my boat, one for the TM and another for the big motor so don't have to use the TM one when running the big motor. Instead of a pole off the front I have my TM transducer tilted forward a few degrees kind of like aiming a flashlight ahead of yourself when walking at night. You have to adjust it for the best angle, got mine where I can see my jigs using my 12' poles spider-rigging, works for me.
So....what kind of rods do I need to pull cranks from the back of the boat with? I have some Wally Marshalls the dark green ones, 12 ft. and I have some B'n'M Sam Heatons in 12 ft. I also have some B'nM ultralite graphites in 10 ft. I also have some 6 and a half ft. and 7 and a half ft. medium spinning rods. Will any of these work? or do I need to get some Outlaw rods.....what lengths do I need. Give me some reccomendations here please.
Got an Eagle 480 on the TM and an old Ultra III on the console, looking to buy a color unit for my TM and move the 480 to the back. I use my TM DF a lot more than my console unit. Was thinking hard about a HDS 5X for the front or even an Eagle 640C (anyone know if Eagle is on the way out?) but after reading about all the QC problems with Lowrance plus the Linda Colt thing am looking at the HB 5 or 7 hundred units for up there. Not a SI unit tho. Want a 640 X 480 or even the 640 X 640 but really don't care about the GPS but it looks like to get a 640 X 640 HB I would have to go to a GPS unit. Anyone have one of the above HB units? 586C or 788ci.
What kind of rods do I need to pull with Steve?
I'm guessing you are talking about cranks so I'm not an expert CB man but do pull some mainly when fishing alone in warmer weather. I run 2 rods off each side with 2 6' Ugly Sticks and 2 9' WM, 1 off each side with the short rods on the back holders. My holders are 2 off each side in the front. I use cheap level winds I got at Wal-mart and 10 lb yellow mono. Again I'm no expert at this, check with Jwhite. Just saw your other message so you are talking about pulling CB's, my WM's are the same ones you have. I think you need different lengths of rods to get separation between your lines, at least on mine as my holders are level with each other.

G-3, I've never pulled before but I'm planning to use two 12' and two 10' Shakespeares to start out with. I have been using them up front for spider rigging but replacing them up front with two 12' and two 10' B&Ms. I just got my new rod holders installed & they look really good. (as in functional).
Thats what I am trying to find out Maj....can I use my jig poles and spidder rigging poles? Some folks tell me that I need stiffer poles with stronger tips to pull cranks so I am looking for some input here. I have used crankbaits before but I used one ounce sinkers and pushed them from the front of the boat.....the only time I have ever pulled any I just held a medium spinning rod in my hand. I have 4 sets of 4 rod holder systems on order from Scott at HiTek. So I will be watching for the UPS truck next week. :)
G-3 I pulled cranks last year twice with medium spinning rods, I didnt like it, they just arent stiff enuff, they worked and I caught fish, but next summer I'm going to stiffer rods. Majflyboy arent you always complaining about no pics? You installed rod holders and aint gonna share? I have not posted any pics but just as soon as I have something pic worth I am gonna learn.
So...what are you going to use? Long poles different lengths? What kind etc?
I have some 7ft medium heavy and a couple of heavy bass rods. All we did last summer was put 2 poles out, 1 out each side of our jon boats. I would love to get some rod holders and have been reading about planer boards, at the same time I am trying to stock up on a few cranks, I dont think my checkbook is gonna allow me to do much. Maybe someone who actually knows what they are doin will help you out, If I had the money I would be looking at some trolling rods and asking the same questions has you
This is about walleye trolling with planer boards but I think this is where Jwhite said he learned a lot about planer boards.
Tips For Using Inline Planer Boards by Julia (Juls) Davis
Maj go ahead and get a third job, that you got more money for toys and no time to use them. That way me and DD can just come get your boat and quit all this buying for ours. Sounds like a plan to me!
all the feshing stuff you buy. Then in about 6 months, add it up. That 778 will do ya nice
I have nothing to add to this thread at the moment, but I find it a crime against nature that a Newb stirred up 150 responses and 3500 views. It just ain't natural.

JELIOUSY has reared it's ugly head me thinks
Go ahead DD. I'd rather have my jealousy rear it's ugly head than have a head that's jealous of the rear's good looks. Have you been diagnosed with perzackerly disease? Where your rear looks persackerly like your head? Well, consider yourself diagnosed and please forward the fifty dolla co-pay.
