Don't the coe lakes have a 5 rods per person limit anyway?
I think its 3 poles per person on Grenada and 5 per person on the other COE lakes....and no limit everywhere else.
Thanks Maj and all you others with such good info, spent most the afternoon at bps trying to figure out which colours of bandits to purchase. Maybe the crappie will take some likeing to the 200's and 300's now in my tackle box. Hey, by the by, it looks like a #6 hook on the 200's, so bps is now out of the red ones as well.. not being greedy, they only had 2 packs.. :)
For those who've asked, here are some pics of the rod holders E-Z made and installed on my boat. The pics appear to be 2-pole holders but they are actually 3-pole holders with the third holder removed. Remember, I'm committed to starting this pulling crank thing with four rods.

These are not great pics but they're all I have fight now.

I'm really looking forward to trying them out. BTW. My HB 788 ci dual beam, GPS with map card came in today. WOO HOOOOO!!!:D:D
majflyboy? Is that a 16' pro bass tracker you are fishing out of? If it is I have the same boat. I pulled cranks out of mine last year on small lakes and had a lot of fun. I didn't get up courage enought to try the COE lakes. How does the boat handle rough water and wind? I would like to try the COE lakes this year. Any comments appreciated
Thanks for the pics Maj... if you need any help with the 788, let me know. Maybe we won't tore it up too bad.:)
I'm sure you know that rough water is also rough in the boat for this size boat anyway. In spite of that I really like my boat. Just got it 6 mos or so ago after not fishing for 10 years. Was looking for a 14' jon boat with a 20hp or so when I found this one.
I don't have a clue why this picture won't post.
Thx for the pics Maj, you know what I love most bout them? The boat is IN the water not n your shop! Hahahahahahahahahahahah
You know the hardest thing you're going to have to learn is how to keep the boat running straight when you're pulling one in while pulling cranks. It CAN be difficult if you have much wind. Just remember run straight lines and make big sweeping turns. There's an article that Jeff (Jwhite) wrote somewhere on this site that talks about all that. Try a Search and track it down. You'll learn ya something. Old Jeff's a pretty sharp cookie and a dam nice fella
Nice setup Major!! I wish I coulda been out there on the rez with you! My wife is from Jackson, and my MIL used to live just off of Spillway road there on the rez. I never got to do any fishing there though before she moved to Union.
How many did you catch the other day?
I USED to have a Taekwondo School over there. Did for 4 or 5 years and knew alot of folks from Union
Lemme see... My wife's aunt, Jo Barron (sp), her cousin, Jo's daugther Denise Mason/Reppond. Denise was married to a fella for a while that I don't really care for...ahem! He was a cop there, Robert Reid. He's a real unfriendly bas..urrr...guy... Doesn't know how to say hello when ya meet him. Acts like your not there...know what I mean?
I know his Dad, Opal Reid really well. He's a good ol' guy. Pretty sick now with emphysema. I just hooked him up an oxygen line at his house while I was there over Christmas. I also work with a fella here in Memphis who's Dad and grandmother lived there till just recently. His last name is Gamel. His Grandmother lived at the nursing home back behind Opals house.
My mom in law lives right down the street on the corner of 5th street. Jo is her sister. Her name is Ginger Welch. I know her landlord as well, lives right behind her. Nice fella who retired from the MHP, man..his name always escapes me..... I'm sure you know him though! Mr. HANNAH..that's it!
....I sureeeee wish I had me a Wards Chilli burger with a root beer float!!!!
Or some catfish and chicken on a stick from Penns in Philly!:D
Maj I think you did a heck of a job with this topic. Great job. If a man did not learn from this, well I don't know.
Just wait Maj till after the first FJ and you will see what you havent got then ya start spendin all over again.
Maj...there will come a time where you will find room for a bigger boat...its coming so just brace yourself. :D
Thanks Catchum. I have read that article several times and each time I learn something new, like today, seeing that picture of those two cranks, both with treble hooks, reminds me what a nightmare I would be in if I don't go on and get one of those plastic nets. I had to cut two red hooks last time out because of getting caught in my NEW net.
Bear says he is going to give them crappie fits this spring, starting tomorrow if the temp gets to 58. Now, he says don't look too close, he may not be on the water, but you have to practice some time or other. At least he has carpet, not kitchen tile.lol:)
Bear's boat looks real good especially with those new rod holders. I told him that you would have something ready for him.:D
E-Z, thanks for all of your help. I hope to have some fish pics soon. Thanks again. Big thanks owed to Maj for the info.
Guys, E-Z is great to deal with. Good looking product and top notch service. Thanks for the web site.
Glad to be of some help.
When you push crankbaits do you put your weight on bottom? or do you use a inline weight
Online about 3 to 4 feet above the bait. Any closer and it will affect the action. I typically use 2 ounces. Even at that. It doesn't get quite as deep as the ones off the back. But if you slow down to under 1.5 they will get deeper than the ones in the back.
Wannabe...
WB, are you putting the weights on the lines out the back of the boat or just if pushing from the front? Also, the red hooks, are they trebel hooks or single hooks?
Only use weights on the front. Need soemthing to keep them down so they won't tangle with the lines from the side or get in the prop in a turn. Red hooks - they talking trebles. Bandit 300s standard are #6 front and back if you want to replace them. Have heard of folks replacing one or both with singles though due to concerns about deep hooked fish. I figure they'd prolly cost you a couple or three missed fish per day or more, but probably would avoid 2 or 3 fish kills as a trade off. Not scientific of course JMHO.
Wannabe...
Thanks WB. I will be changing out to red hooks.
Got my 4 new Okuma MA-15DX line counter reels in today, now to decide on the new rods and the line.:eek:More $$$:eek:
you can also use red snap swivels as well to just add some red paint to the cranks. I HATE changing out hooks so I don;t usually do it. I have another trick that I do and it does work just as good if not better for adding red. Maj, here's the tricky part about adding weight. They actually did a study on it and you can get your cranks down deeper and not lose action in your crank if you'll put a 1 oz weight about 12-15 feet (they said 20 though) above the crank with a inline swivel as a stopper for the egg sinker. YUou need it to slide though is the key. You can get about 20% deeper if you run the 1 oz weight on it if my memory serves me correct. Then again it is fun to have 150 foot of line out and you're having to ski a 2 pound crappie back to the boat
Lord will this thread never end!!!!
Maj, get you some BnM Pro Staff Trollers and be done.
Line - Get you some 10# stren orignal in gold and be done. Tried 'em all. Can't beat it for the price. Can beat it on performance, but not by much.
Weights - It's gonna be a cluster to have a 12' rod with 15' of line behind the weight and be in a 16' boat. But if you do it, let me know, I want to take pics.
Also, keep in mind if you put a weight above a barrel swivel for a stopper, be sure to keep a check on the line at the knot on the top side. The weight can abrade the line over time and occasionally pretty quickly if there's a rough spot from the pour.
put a glass or plastic bead between the weight and swivel. This will keep the weight from wearing your knot (line) at the swivel. Just like rigging a carolina rig for bass.
Bear has it figured right...always use a bead.
I personally think this thread is startin to get to Wannabe. Would have been differant if he started it though. LOL
Yea Sat I think you are wright and it is killing him.
WB, went to Academy this afternoon, they didn't have the Pro Staff Trollers, the 10# stren origional gold, or the red snaps that DD mentioned. Is there an on-line site that carries everything??
I did buy a few Bandit 300's and even a few 200's. Just trying to jump start the economy.:D
Well.......it's a darn good thread though. Just sayin. ;)
