Took the boat out for the first time in '11. Went to Spencer Creek and hit the brush piles near the bank. The fishing seemed slow as I didn't see a lot of people killing them, just catching enough to keep it interesting.

I ended the day with 6 keepers and 3 small ones that will be Blue bait, lost 2 good ones at the boat and missed probably a half dozen or more. This was my third time to fish Oologah and it was nice fishing new water, but I missed the Big E.

I was fishing brush and ledges in 16 to 22ft deep. I caught all but one of my fish within 2 feet of the bottom. I was using painted jig head with minnows. I used chartreuse, black and orange 1/8th jig heads. The chartreuse jig heads and rosie minnows was the best combination, followed by a black jig head and a rosie minnow. In fact, I only caught one Crappie off of a normal shiner. The best depth seemed to be 18ft, but I had hits at other depths.

The biggest of the day was a 14 incher. I lost the twin to this one at the boat while I was reaching for my net :eek: :o

Welcome Charlster,

I know people have been doing good in spencer off the bank where the steep ledge is on the south of the park. I seen them lined up in there and catching plenty, although I am sure a Southern wind is preferred. Keep it up you'll be on the fish in that area, it's been a good spot.

Speaking of Spencer Creek, for all you guys who didn't play hookie from work or school today to go fishing heres whatcha missed! Only caught 10 today, took most of the day as the bite was slow. I hooked a BIG crappie that had my pole doubled over, got it to the boat & tried to pick it up by the line, that was a mistake, the 10lb test snapped! Big Crappie!!

You know, I have to relearn that lesson about 2 or 3 times per year. You'd think after all this time that lesson would sink in!

We fished the lower end of Oologah today. Not a spectacular day, but better than working!!

Hindsight being 20-20, I think I tied the knot at the jig head wrong & that's where the line broke. Lesson learned, I'll use a double loop through the eye of the jig head and a 4 loop through knot from now on plus I went & bought a net for the boat this evening. Maybe I'll hook that joker again tomorrow :rolleyes:

We fished Oologah yesterday ,1-4-11, and it was a great day except for the NE wind at 15. The weatherman said L&V:eek:. We fished the south end on the ledges and the bite was on. There were 2 of us in my boat and 2 in another boat. We got on the water at 9 and off by 1. The first ledge we pulled up on was in 18 fow and the shad and crappie were stacked up on it. We caught about 75 fish in 2 hours. The other boat stayed there all day we moved to 2 other ledges nearby. The second ledge we moved to was directly in the wind but we managed 8 as fast as we could get the jigs in the water. After taking the second wave over the front of the boat:eek: we decided to move back where we started. The action had slowed there so we moved to another ledge that was protected from the wind and it was the best action yet. We finished off a 2 man limit and went back to where our buddies were and told them we were done. They decided to leave also and they had 35 keepers. So we ended the day catching over 175 fish and keeping 109 between the 4 of us. The best colors were blk/char, electric chicken, and blue/white. We caught the fish from the bottom all the way up to 6 feet deep.

Today, 1-5-11, the weather was better with a 10mph NW wind but the bite was way off. We proved the theory that electronics don't lie. We fished the same 3 places today as yesterday. The only difference, hardly any shad or crapppie on the locator. We only had about 3 hours to fish so we didn't go looking for them like we normally would have. I am even more convinced that if the locator shows little to no shad don't waste your time fishing that area. Keep moving and looking until you find them and then you can fill the boat. It was a good day on the water anyways. Gonna be in hunt mode again on Friday.
I was with Gamblinman today and that is the picture of our catch in his post. I enjoyed it Bruce.

Fished Spencer and Blue Creeks on 1-4-11 from about 10:00-4:00. Got a limit and let about a dozen go. The fish were outside the brush in 14-18 FOW. Blue/pearl and elec. chicken were the best colors. About a third of the fish were caught on minnows. This is my first time to try and post an image so let's see if I screw it up.
