Really nice catch there, I've never crappie fished in the winter, and my plan is to change that tomorrow before the cold front comes in.
We put in at Talala creek yesterday around 11:00. We looked for twenty feet of water and good brush. We managed to find some good spots, but the wind was blowing way to much for the little anchors my buddy has on his boat, so we would barely get dropped down and then the boat would blow away dragging anchors. We finally found a spot where the wind would let us fish for about 20 - 30 minutes before we blew away, and that spot was a good one. We pulled out some very nice crappie, just not as many as we would have liked. It was my first crappie fishing trip with one of my old friends in many years, and he is converting into a crappie fisherman. I had tied up some Cerise/Chartreuse jigs for the trip, and on the first drop he pulled out a 14 inch fattie! It was fast and furious for a few minutes, before the wind blew us away. We brought home 12 big ones, and threw back a few shorties. Two of the 12 were big nice 14 inchers, and all the fish but one shortie, was caught on the Cerise/Chartreuse jigs. Feeling some big crappie smack a jig has really got the crappie fever going now! We talked to several other boats of fishermen, and noone did any better than us, so I guess the wind wreaked havoc on all of us. Good luck fishin, be careful in the cold!
I have FREE stuff to give away to two people who fish Oologah as the primary fishin hole AND who fish there often.
First, here's my story. I'm an iPhone user and I wanted to find an app that would allow me to keep a fishing journal of sorts, just something that I could use to keep track of what kind, how many, and where on the lake I caught my fish for 2011. My thinking was that once I had enough data stored within the app I would then know when and where I would find the best production on Oologah for any time of year and under any conditions. What I found was an app for the iPhone (also available for the Android) called "FishNotes" which sounded like it would fit my needs, so I paid the $13 and installed it. Little did I know that right now the owners of this app are doing a massive upgrade, so the current version has limited use for the next two weeks give or take some.
To make a long story shorter I contacted the owners, told them my problems with the app that for the most part is broken. They told me to give them some time as they are in the process of a massive upgrade, I told them this was BS and I was going to blast them on my iTunes review of the app, this got the owners attention and prompt action from the powers that be. I've seen screen shots of the yet to be released new version and it's actually AWESOME! For all my trouble the owners of this app have offered to give two of my friends FREE copies of the app.
So what does it currently do...
Well, to start with it allows you to create a fishing report that includes photos, voice message, and even video. The record you create in the app includes a map of where you caught it, what you caught, when you caught it, weather & water conditions, and more. It then allows you to share that with other users of the app, and it will automatically post your report on your FaceBook and GoFishN walls for all your friends and family to see, REALLY NEAT!! The new version improves on all of this and adds even more capability. So, as you can imagine, the more people who fish the same lake, and who use the app, the more information all the other users of the app who fish the same lake get. This makes knowing when, where, and what is biting readily available to users of the app thus making our fishing trips more productive.
Who can get the free copies...
I'm looking for two people who meet the following criteria.
1) Oologah is your primary fishin hole and you fish there often.
2) You are a hardcore iPhone or Android user and intend to stay that way.
3) You are at least somewhat techie oriented and wouldn't mind using an app like this.
4) You can see the value in 3 people (or more) who fish Oologah often sharing this type of info.
5) And most of all, you will use it so that the three of us can enjoy more productive Oologah fishing.
What I'm NOT looking for is an app horder who won't use the app, this will do us no good at all, so please, don't bother. I will look through the fishing reports posted to this thread, if you are are not an avid Oologah Fishing Report contributor here then I really doubt you would use the app.
So, if you are the type person I'm looking for please PM me and let me know. Once I have my two people for the free apps I'll contact the owners of FishNotes and get the info needed to get you your free copy.
Best,

Fished Blue Creek today and wound up with 48 keepers. Wind was HORRIBLE but manageable with heavy anchors. Caught all our fish around 8-12 feet in 16 fow. Caught them all on jigs red/char, char, electric chicken and blue/white. Seemed to bite well for 30 minutes then the bite was off then back for 30 most of the day. Fished for about four hours. Really rough ride back to the ramp. Wind was really bad. Good luck to all!!
Wow....good deal and glad you made it off the lake safely, Can't imagine being out on Oologah in that wind today.

Fished from 6:30 yesterday morning until 4:15. Caught at least a couple of hundred Crappie, we kept close to two limits. Most fish kept were 11" to 14". Depth varied from 6' below the surface to 18' deep. Fish suspended around or in the brush. One of the best winters to fish Oologah in years! If you have the clothing to stay warm, get out and get you some.
Fished on Friday with 2 other guys. The wind was rough to hold in, but the fish were biting. We fished ledges on the south end of the lake with some brush scattered on them. We kept 57 and could have kept a whole lot more but didn't want to clean any more. All fish were over 10 inches and 1/2 of them over 12 inches. We didn't have any huge fish, the biggest was a 13 incher that looked like she had swallowed a golf ball. They are just gorged with shad. The best depth for us was 25 fow. We used jigs in various colors but the best was blue/white. Here are pics of the ones I cleaned.

Yesterday I went solo. It has to be one of the all time best days I have ever had. I got on the water at 8 and it was an alright bite until about noon. I think I had caught 75 and had 25 in the well. The wind actually calmed down some around noon and I was able to move. I found a ledge in 25 fow with a just a little brush on it. The screen on my locator lit up from the bottom to within 6 feet of the surface. There was no fishing involved, just drop in and catch. The size was great. I went back to the live well and threw out 12 fish that were over 10 inches and replaced them with 12 inch fish. I closed the livewells when I got to 34 and kept fishing for 2 more hours. I must have caught over 200 fish, maybe more. I tried to fish with a rod in each hand and there was no way. I even caught 2 fish on one rod 1 time. Best colors today were blue/white and red/char. I wished my son would have braved the cold with me, he would be hooked for sure.
Just a tip I have found these last 2 weeks. If you have a locator, keep moving until you find big schools of shad and the crappie will be in them. The fish have not been the same place everyday. Same places we kept 109 Tuesday we kept 11 Wed. due to there being no shad. I had not fished any of the places I fished the last 2 days. I just turned on my locator and trolled in 25 fow until I found what I was looking for.

Great reports fellers;
I went out to Spencer Friday. Marked a couple of corp brushpiles around 18-20 ft deep in the cove behind the camping area. Caught one nice crappie and sandbass and one dink of each. Others around there had similar or worse results, although they said the day before was pretty productive. I was using little panfish assassins that looked like bobby garland pintail baits, since I couldn't find BGs at Academy or BPS. It was pretty windy but a little sheltered back in the cove. The ledges by the picnic tables were windy and tough to fish from my boat. Met an ole timer there who seemed real nice. I'm open to any tips shared and I've learned a lot from you guys' posts here. Thanks.
Crappie are always biting somewhere. Nabatak handles Bobby Garland baits. I don't know how many different types they carry, but do know they carry orange/chartruese which is the only combo I use other than my hand tied jigs.
