Oologah Archives

I fished from 1-5 yesterday and had the whole place to myself. It was my first time there so I spent about half the time finding brush. A lot of it was probably a little too shallow for this time of year at 11-14 ft. Only caught a couple there but later, I ran across a suspended school in open water. They were about 8-12 feet deep in 17 FOW. I backed off and cast jigs to them which worked well for a while. After about 20 mins., they scattered into smaller groups that were nervous and hard to follow. I kept 19 (biggest was 14") and threw about a dozen back. BG baby shad in elec chicken and blue/pearl both produced. Can't wait to try it again!

Good mess Kevin! You guy's have e'm patterned for sure. How's the water clarity? Do you think it's helping on the jig bite?

Nice bunch of fish. Great pictures. It has been pretty slow at the docks lately. I think it is because the lake is so low and the fish have moved to deeper water. Gonna give them a try Sunday morning. If I do any good I will post pictures.

Leland the water clarity seemed about the same as it always is. Oologah never really clears up, I think Oologah and Eufaula are a lot alike, they both get fed by a muddy river and your lucky if you can see your jig over a foot or two deep. One pattern that seemed to work well was to shake the jig about an inch or two for 10-15 seconds. When we'd stop shaking the jig the crappie would thump it. I don't understand, the shaking sure wasn't lifelike, but maybe that's how they find it in dingy water. As long as they thump it, we're willing to feed it to em any way they like.

Sometimes you have to pizzzz e'm off to get a bite, I'll try that here and see what happens!

You guys are killing me! I haven't been out since the 3rd week of Sept. Hoping to get out next week but might be looking for some big blues.

Made it out in the cold and wind today about 10. We fished until 3 and kept 30. The wind limited us to only a few places. We were not able to fish any of the places I fished on Thursday. We fished 6-7 brushpiles from 17 -28 fow and one didn't seem to be any better than the other. We could never find that one honey hole like you can sometimes find in the winter. We fished jigs, with the best color being some kind of pink or blue. Did I mention it was cold and windy, but it beat sitting at home:D.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, 14" and 1 lb 12 ozs and 2 lbs 4 ozs 15.5". Its amazing what 1.5" more gets ya.

got me a new humminbird side scan yesterday. Installing it today and then hitting oologah tomorrow. I can't wait!!! hoping it will help put more fish in the boat!

You're gonna love the side scan. You'll find brush and fish in a fraction of the time it used to take. The only problem is when you first start using it, you'll want to spend more time looking at stuff instead of fishing.
