anyone braving the cold??? Might warm into the upper 40s this weekend. I might try to get out if there is a ramp open and not frozen over.
I braved it today, had the lake to myself fished from 10-3 and had ZERO luck I wasnt able to find the shad looked all over the south end, will rogers, hawthorne, island off redbud, motored over to blue creek but the wind kept us from the bank I like to fish but there weren't any shad there anyway. COLD!!! Went to blue creek to put in and the ramp was frozen solid. Walked 10 feet out on the ice from the ramp and not even a crack had to be 6-12 inches thick. Only place I could put in was the Dam which was no problem. Had to dodge a couple sheets of floating ice. Brett, a buddy of mine was brave enough to take on the tough conditions. Wish we would have found the shad. I am thinking the bitter cold night may have changed their pattern a little. Guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching. Will give them a few days to adjust and go after them again. Water temp was 37-38 which is a little colder than last week. Good luck to all who brave it. It sure beat sitting at home.
Went out today and yesterday to see if the fish would still bite. Yesterday I managed to catch a decent mess of fish. It really wasn't as cold as I expected it to be, but today was a different story. First off the parts of the lake were frozen. I threw rocks to see how easy it would break, and the majority of the decent size rocks I threw got stuck in the ice. So today was a wasted trip. I caught all the fish yesterday on jigs fishing 10-12 ft deep in 19-22 fow. I tried cork fishing but the ice build up on my line not my tip keep the slip cork from falling. I'll brave it again tomorrow, but I may end up heading down south. Here are some pics from today and yesterday.
I drove around today to check out the ice conditions. Talala creek is froze also. I am going to venture out tomorrow if the wind is not too bad.

I was out there yesterday also. Spencer was frozen. I tossed some rocks through the ice out of frustration mostly, didn't help. Drove over to Blue Creek, same deal there, all frozen. Followed Okie332 around to Hawthorn where he was able to launch but I didn't see anywhere I could bank fish without being in the wind. Drove around to Goose Island, the wind was pretty wicked so I passed on it as well. Ended up in the heated dock at Claremore lake where I caught a ton of crappie, and all of them 3 & 4 inches long, no keepers.
Thinking about taking the boat to Hawthorn ramp today, but if the coves are still frozen I don't know where I would go to catch fish out there.
G3 you should have stopped and talked. I am always up for a good crappie talk!!! As per my earlier post you didn't miss much. Came across the dam this morning around 0845 and somebody was fishing on the north side of the island at redbud and when I came back across at around 1000 they were still there in the same place. Whoever it was I hope they were catching some. Anyway G3 I sometimes drive the Maroon jeep I was in yesterday and sometimes I am driving a 1995 ford red/white 3/4 ton extended cab. Stop and say hello or hope to see you on the water. Take Care.
Anyone know if the Big Creek area from the ramp to the river is frozen? I imagine it will be unless someone has been up there breaking the ice through.
Cope, it was frozen yesterday.

Has anyone been out to the Blue Creek Wildlife Area lately? I was hoping someone had been out there to see if it is frozen.
