I gave up fishing for Crappie on Oologah for the time being. I'll get back after it when the levels stabilize.
In the meantime, if you need me, I'll be below the dam at Hudson fishing for blues

I haven't fished Oologah in a few weeks, but I know fishing has been pretty tough here lately, but don't give up on them. This is not unusual for Oologah during the summer months. Last year was an exception because the timber bite was on fire, and if you couldn't find them there you could go down below the dam and load up. When the lake levels get really high the wignanon bridge area is also a good spot to try. If they don't bite in the morning, try the evening, if they don't bite in the evening try the middle of the day. Now I know how hot it is but I've hammered them in the past during the heat of the day. Those fish have to eat, you just have to find what time the dinner bell starts ringing.
I'd rather sit on the couch and scratch my private parts before I turn to catfishing. lol! When I was young my dad ruined me, because that's all he wanted to do was catfish.
Was that a bite?

We debated fishing Oologah or Skiatook this weekend and decided to keep fishing Oologah despite the water being up 9 ft and our poor results the weekend before. We thought the fish have gotta bite sometime, and our persistence must have brought us luck. We ended up with 43 keepers Saturday and 38 on Sunday. The size of the fish seemed to be a little better. Still nothing to write home about, but enough 12 inch fish to make it fun. We concentrated on several different brush piles in 15-25ft of water. Caught fish on jigs early and minnows later as the sun rose higher. Water was clearing up, you could see 3 to 4ft down.

Well that's a great report to hear Whisperer. Glad to here someone'sdoing something on the O. I spoke to a fishing pal of yours at the Oologah store a while back who said you and he fish together. He saw the sticker on my boat but I didn'tcatch his name. I may try it on my next days off if the water isn't boiling from heat.

Sure was hot this weekend but we had a good time fishin anyway. Crappie seemed to be back to their normal patterns even though the water is still up 7-8ft. It definitely makes it tougher to catch fish when the water is up this high. We caught 32 keepers Saturday and 40 Sunday. Not sure how many smaller fish we caught but it was a bunch. Saturday seemed like a normal day, but Sunday started much slower and got better later in the morning. Caught the crappie off brush piles in 15-25ft of water using jigs early then minnows later in the morning. Thought I had a 3lb'er hooked with my rod bent double and it ended up being a 5lb drum. My buddy had a pretty good laugh out of it.

We did pretty good this weekend with the water finally coming down close to normal. I think it was a 4 or 5ft above. The summer patterns are back on track just like last summer and should only get better as the water level gets closer to normal. We caught 47 keepers Saturday and 42 Sunday and we were back home by noon Saturday and 1:00 Sunday. Caught quite a few good fish 12-13 inches, but no really big fish. Seems like the size has been getting better over the last 3 or 4 weekends. Not sure how many smaller fish we caught but we used 3/4lb of minnows both days and even caught fish on the dried up dead ones laying around the boat after we ran out of live ones. Caught quite a few on jigs early in mornings too and tried to alternate between jigs and minnows all morning. We really prefer to catch em on jigs just to feel the thump, but during the summer the minnows outperform the jigs without a doubt. Caught em on brush piles in 15-25ft and the fish move from shallow to deep as the sun gets higher. Sure was hot but we had fun.

Tear 'em up. Let us know how it goes. I'm thinking about trying to go on Saturday. Water is only 3 1/2 feet up now so it should be pretty good.
