Let me fill you in on how the brush piles are placed at Oologah. Every year the Corps will hold a brushpile day at a different recreation area. Last year it was at Spencer Creek, this year it will be at Blue Creek, and the next year it will be at Hawthorne. The Corps provides boats, chain saws, rope, wooden boxes to fill with rocks for weight, GPS to mark the piles, lunch, and so on. The public provides the manpower. The Corps will drop the brush piles anywhere the guys helping want within reason. If they are working out of Spencer Creek they won't drive across the lake to put in a pile, they expect to stay in the general area but the helpers on each boat have all say in where exactly the piles are dropped.

There are brush piles all over the lake but the are concentrated around the rec areas. The pile that I caught the 62 crappie on Sunday was placed in 2006 and is available via the Corps website. They are all on there.

Here is a link to the brush piles for each year going back to 2003.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of help!

That's a great program they have there. I just looked at the 2009 map thinking it would be the most up to date... I didn't realize they were set up so that each year was a different area. Looks like I have some homework to do. Thanks for that info and the link.

Where do they announce when/where they will be doing these drops. I would like to volunteer if possible.

It will be discussed here at length when the time comes I'm sure. They may post it on the Corps website as well.

uh, Meatdragger, could you repeat the number of that brush pile, uh, I got the 06 part, uh, I must have been distracted for a moment, I didn't catch which one.
Just kidding, but the best late fall and early winter I ever had on Oologah was in 06 fishing older piles that barley showed up on my sonar. Ever since then I have been a volunteer on brush pile day, mostly for the hamburgers. :D

I took the Brush Pile data from 03-09 and uploaded all of it into Google earth... You'll need to unzip it before you can import it because the site doesn't allow the KMZ/KML files to be uploaded directly.

So here is a .kmz file that has all 6 years worth of brush pile data. I am pretty sure you can push that to your GPS device of choice or print it out and take it with you if you want. There's more info on the official site for years 07 and prior (depth mostly). This will definitely help me to figure out where to launch my little canoe so that I can get to some more sheltered water that still has cover in it.

    Hope someone finds it useful.

Here's a link to the export of all of it to google maps.

There are definitely a few I saw on the bank... You can go to the corps site that Meatdragger posted or if you have google earth (its free) you can use that file I posted and it has everything on it.

Never fails. Off work for a few days and its gonna be raining. Might have to dust off the rain gear to get out there and get a line wet.

Any of you gonna be getting out this week?

All, brushpile day is always held on the second saturday in September which will be September 11th this year and will be at Blue Creek as mentioned earlier. Usually we start things off around 9:00am and work until 12:30 or 1:00 and then we'll eat lunch, give out some prizes, and for those that wish to go back out and drop some more brush, we can load up and work until3:00-3:30pm. All you need to bring is a lifejacket and a pair of gloves, we will supply everything else. Hope to see everyone there. Jason Person, Park Ranger @ Oologah Lake.
