First of all I never claimed to be a pro at anything. I learned a lot of what I know about pulling cranks from members here. I also learned much more by getting on the water, making mistakes and losing gear, refining my tactics to the places I fish, and just having a good time doing it.It must be working because I've helped a bunch of friends learn the crankbait game and they catch fish doing it.

I'm sure somebody here has mentioned that most of the depth graphs and line-counters are calibrated with 10 pound mono. That could very well be why you are seeing a discrepancy in your readings. I never depend on my counters to do anything but allow me to put out the same amount of line that I did on the previous cast AND to allow me to stagger the distance that baits are running. I don't want 4 baits off the transom running anywhere close to the distance the bait next to them is running. I also don't depend on a chart to tell me exactly where my given bait will be running with a given amount of line out. Trial and error and making constant adjustments on my gear is the best guide you can use.

I think you are over-analyzing this crankbait thing. Get on the lake, drop some cranks over the side and have a good time doing it. Rocket science has nothing to do with it.
