Got an okuma line counter reel, it says I need to have a full spool for it to be accurate, when my line counter is set to zero and I start turning it jumps to 999 and counts down with every turn. Does this mean I need to start spoiling and add 999 feet of line to make sure I have a full spool? Also once it gets all the way down to say 001...will it eventually hit 000 again then as i pull line off it will start its way back...000, 001, 002, 003 and so forth ?

Just fill the spool full of line.....within a sixteenth of a inch from top edge of spool. After you get your line on hit reset button....it should zero out.......then as you pull line out it should count it. You will have to reset counter everytime you use it.

I agree with G.... After several test , i found that if they are not spooled fully they will not be right... No need to count... Just spool it like g said (with a 1/6th of the outer edge... Zero and check it if u want.. It will be within inches at 100 feet

I like my Okuma Magna Pro15's been useing them for seven years now.....I have ten of them....I just spray them down regularly with Blakemore's Reel Magic and they work great. Some people like the depth counter line though.....its fishing, not rocket science....just get what you like and go fishing.
