I had to break ice also, launching at Tommy's, solid ice all the way across. Was wierd sounding on that aluminum boat.
I can imagine Maj, was bad enough on Fiberglass
Got a bigger ice breaker for this winter though, will be ready for it. The coldest I get is when running WOT to get from pt a to pt b. I can usually dress comfortably for the cold.
You dang sho had some cold weather clothing on last year man.
THat's what it's all about.
Okay guys, I have been reading and collecting information on pulling and pushing cranks trying to learn new techniques. One thing I have not heard discussed is what water clarity is the best? 6" - 2'; 2'-4'; 4'-6' water clarity. Is one water clarity better for pushing than pulling or is it just one's own preference? Is longlining jigs better in clear water? Thanks.
I would say the difference between pulling and pushing is just preference....I know some guys that do both at the same time also. Dark water-----use darker colors.....clear water------use lighter brighter colors.
Pulled cranks today on the Rez, caught 11, kept 4 with the smallest being 13", largest 16" (2lbs, 4oz). Got very windy so only fished a couple hours.

That's EZ making a fashion statement with that hat.
I couldn't figure it out for a minute with that hat....then I recognized the rod rack and I knew who it was.
G, that's a never-been-seen-before-today rack. Wait until you get a close look at that setup, it's awesome.
Nice job Major. There was no wind at my office over by Meadowbrook chopping center til bout 10, then it was a kicking. IF we don't have much wind, I might try and go early Saturday til 10ish. Got to be home for the State game and then off to a BDay party at The Regency. Dranks and dancin all night long.

Sour Apple 300's are hot right now
I got something... What are some techniques for pulling cranks when it is cold. Do you slow down below 1.6 mph and use 200 series to run shallow? Or do you continue to pull fast like 2.0 mph? What should you change when the weather gets cooler? Also, how long can you pull cranks?
I read an article online in Mississippi Sportsman where Paul Johnson caught some when it was cold...

G3... How fast and deep you pulling? What is the water temp? The rez is low 70s
I use only 300's I pull from 1.6 to 1.9 mph. Have been fishing 20fow running 65 ft. of line out ( 10lb. mono). I would have to look at my chart to tell you how deep that would be. OK.....about 13 Ft. When the weather finally turns cold it will be time to hang the cranks up and go to jigs and minnows.
Here ya go....here is the chart.................This chart is figured for 10 lb. line and speed of 1.6 mph

Its 76 pages if your settings are for ten posts to the page. Great thread by the way. So far Orange Crushs are outfishing my Sardis Golds.
Whats everyones best producing Bandit color? The one that works best for me is Pink/Silver Sparkle
I would have to say solid chartruese with pink coming in a close second...
G3 - What water temp will you put the cranks up and take out the jigs/minnows?
DoubleG
Not trying to be a wise guy....but I don't pay too much attention to the water temp....I let the fish tell me what they want. Now....this time of year I keep both crank baits and jigs in the boat so if they are not hitting the cranks I can always switch from pulling cranks to spider rigging.
Gotcha G3... Thanks...
Same way with the colors DG.....I toss out six differen't color cranks and pull untill I see what one they seem to like the best and then I put that color on every pole.....same way with the jigs when I spider rig.
The best colors for me this summer were black and awesome pink. This was my 1st summer to pull but caught alot of fish. I'm hooked! I plan to try them Saturday with a new color that one of my buddies has used lately. I'll not reveal the color just yet but it has given me the excuse to buy more bandits.
Come on now, give it up on the color. Can't hide things like that
