My first Minnkota arrived in the same condition as what is shown. I'm guessing that someone out there just hates trolling motors in general.

Maybe someone working for the shipper hates Motorguide.....![]()

I would send it back
I have owned a couple brand new MG trolling motors and I am very unhappy with them. They are made very cheap in my opinion and do not stand up to the lightest of bangs and bruises you expect to get while fishing. If I buy another one I think I will give MK a try. Everyone I ever fished with that had a MK was rougher on theirs and it seemed like they took a lickin and kept on tickin. I have never owned one but I think I will in the future.
I've hooked up the Xi5 , that came in that box, and so far ever thing seems to be working
I hear of a lot of experiences with motorguide before the xi5 being bad. My xi5 has been pretty tough so far. Hopefully motorguide turned the corner with this motor.
Until this boat all I'd ever had was Motorguide trolling motors, never any issues on three previous boats.
Motorguide is now owned by Mercury. May be a good thing.

my xi5 box was pretty beat up but the unit was ok. It's just a shipping issue.

I just ordered a Terrova from Brian to install for a customer. When the box came it had a hole punched in it but was OK inside. It was packed just like the MG you guys are showing.
It has been some time since my last TM order (maybe four years) but it seems my last one had foam around the foot and head. I may be wrong but it seems foam would work much better??
