I use spot lock a lot when striper fishing heavy current below local dams and it holds me right where I drop when it has time to settle. As long as it has enough thrust to overcome current.

That trolling motor is smart............ But it ain't smart enough to know if the boats in the water on on trailer.........

I AM ONE OF THOSE WHO TESTED IT ON TRAILER,THE WAY WE DID IT WAS WE LET TM DOWN JUST LIKE IT WOULD BE IN WATER,THEN RON SET IT ON SPOTLOCK AND I PUT A ROCK WHERE IT WAS AT,THEN HE WOULD MOVE TRAILER TILL PROP STARTER TURNING,I PUT ANOTHER ROCK THERE AND HE WOULD BACK UP TILL PROP STOP TURNING,THEN I PUT ANOTHER ROCK THERE,WE DID IT SEVERAL TIMES AND WOULD MEASURE THE DISTANT AND IT WOULD BE OFF UP TO ALMOST 20 FEET ONE WAY THEN UP TO 20 FEET OTHER WAY,NOW TELL ME WHY YOU CAN NOT TEST GPS PART OF SPOTLOCK ON LAND.DON'T HAVE ANYTHING ELSE AGAINST MK FOR I THINK IT IS THE BEST FOR TROLLING AND MORE HEAVY DUTY,BUT I NEED SOMETHING THAT STAYEDS ON BP,THANK U ALL

I think the packaging was the problem. The trolling motor doesn't appear packed well at all......That is manufacturers packaging, and they need to fix that.

I have read that the new updates to the i-pilot link tighten up the spot lock....maybe too much. One thing is for sure, they will be working on that a LOT harder now that they have competition in that game.........Competition is GOOD.

You said you think they used the same box because of a hole but these are clearly different boxes. How? They have different size fonts/logos on them. The 2nd box the font/logo takes up the whole box whereas the 1st box one barely takes up the box. I also have seen the post office tape up boxes they have annihilated and deliver them to my work like nothing of it. If I were to guess, I'd say shipping company borked both boxes.

Mine didn't come like this. It was shipped directly from Motorguide. I swear your 1st box looks narrower than the 2nd box. Here is what mine looked like. Of course I took the plastic off for photo purposes but this is the way it was packed with cardboard sleeves every so often to prevent damage. It has the big font/logo like your 2nd one.

The trolling motor is not running itself or floating in the water. It could not drop the waypoints. You are not understanding how it works. When you first hit spot lock it drifts off then re corrects it drops a waypoint. Then corrected again dropping a waypoint each time until it settles with a 5 foot circle of waypoints. There is no way it can work on the trailer. Get on the water with less than a 10 mph and drop buoys to test but face wind or current when you approach and at slow speed. This motor does not have a separate GPS for speed and another for direction as the MG, but with practice does do what it was intended for. I am not saying that the MG will not anchor your boat better, but so will a $4 concrete block. Or a $2000 power pole.

I swear this box looks like it fell off the back of a delivery truck and landed on the end. You can tell by the damage and see the point of impact on that end. Then someone just tried taping it up.

As far as the other box I have no idea. It's not even the right Xi5 box. It has a totally different smaller logo on it and appears to be narrower than the other badly damaged box. Maybe a forklift fork hit it or something??? Either way this is terrible all around.
