Seems to me the packaging as shown would be fine for in store purchase..........but very insufficient for shipping across town much less any further than that! the manufacturers should dern sure know better..............

I agree.i think that foam would be a better way to pack it.theres really not much protecting the lower unit, the way there packaging them right now

All of the weight, is in the bottom .If a person picks it up in the middle, it will flip straight up.

The manufacturers used to put foam in the box to help protect the trolling motor and it helped greatly to eliminate damaged lower units from dropped boxes. As for holes punched in boxes, that's just carelessness on the part of the carrier and the driver. Trolling motors seem to be the most common damage claim I see due to the weight and size of the boxes. In addition, it seems the boxes are even cheaper than they used to be.

I assure you when they are loaded on the UPS truck, they don't have holes and crushed ends on them !

I can't imagine that the cost of adding a little foam to the packaging would cost more than all the damaged motors being returned.

One of the problems you have today with shipping is people ship USPS cause it is cheaper but they use both FedEx and UPS to handle the transportation between the pickup location and the delivery location. Almost everything I have ordered of any size that was shipped USPS in the last couple of years has been handled by UPS between location post offices. Surprised me, my MK came straight from factory and was delivered with marry a scratch on the box. 2 times in a row would have me more than upset though. No matter where you got it from think I would send those pictures to MG. Sure looks like they could improve on the packaging around the motor and head.

Recieved a MK riptide by mail a month ago and that box is build like a tank. You can stand on it and it won't flex. It was left out in the rain for the last 2 weeks and after reading about the XI5 I was considering returning it to get that motor. I pulled it inside and it wasn't even wet. I'm thinking those boxes are sealed with wax.
