I think you'd have to be moving for a gps offset to work. Otherwise it wouldn't know which direction to offset the waypoint to. One nice feature they could add to the hbird units would be an internal compass so the unit could maintain a bearing even when you're not moving. My garmin handheld has an internal electronic compass which seems to work pretty well as long as you calibrate it regularly.
I like the Garmin electronic compass.
