    Default GPS offset?

Wonder why they don't offer a waypoint offset for fixed gps receivers (puck)?

If they can offset depth, the they oughta be able to offset position. Be nice if a gas puck was in one location on the boat and we could offset the position relative to our fishing position in the boat. Just saying. This is technically possible.

    Default Humm...

I was thinking about this question and thought about writing a filter to offset the way points. How would you deal with what direction to offset to? If the puck was always 15 feet south of the fishing spot it would be easy but since the puck would always be 16 away in a moving direction it would be a challenge I can't figure how to quickly overcome.

I have thought about this so many times, and wished they had it. I haven't shelled out the money for an external receiver for my HDS unit yet. May have Sure would be nice to be able to adjust for the 7ft that I have between it and the ducer.

    Default Waypoint

While in sidescan/downscan you move your cursor over an underwater target and mark it; is that waypoint directly over the structure when you return in GPS mode or off the distance from the antenna to the transducer?

I've though bout that as well. You'd have to be able to define the offset in 2d as opposed to the 1d depth offset, but it should be pretty easy to do.

Default When marking in side imaging

When marking in side image mode the mark is directly related to the antenna/ receiver not the transducer.
But re-thinking the original question. All our map cards have calibration features that allow us to move the map or calibrate them..... so if we could calibrate the lat / long base map then maybe...
    Still thinking....

CP, wouldn't the offset (bearing) change constantly? (Unless you were stationary of course, or your offset bearing somehow managed to be the same each time you created a waypoint)

CRAPPIEHUNTER68, I how do you get to the map (horizontal) offset/calibrate on the card. I haven't noticed that before.

The HB's have a map offset function. Can't remember exactly but I think you go to the menu while in Map view and look for offset. Then go to a known point and use that point to reset map position. Now that said I noticed when I did it it didn't really seem to stay fixed after I restarted the unit. Really it is just a cosmetic fix. In my situation I do not care greatly if my boat icon displays exactly at the point it should be on the map but that it displays exactly where I marked a point is important.
I have come to the conclusion the only fix for difference in transducer and receiver position is to have the external puck placed really close to the transducer.
