I was thinking more in the line of Icon offset. This would be an omnidirectional offset and not affect the waypoint. Boat Icon= Current GPS position +-offset (in feet).

Yes. I have a bluehtooth receiver GPS (Garmin GPS10). Works great with my laptop.

CRAPPIEHUNTER68, I how do you get to the map (horizontal) offset/calibrate on the card. I haven't noticed that before.
I think you'd have to be moving for a gps offset to work. Otherwise it wouldn't know which direction to offset the waypoint to. One nice feature they could add to the hbird units would be an internal compass so the unit could maintain a bearing even when you're not moving. My garmin handheld has an internal electronic compass which seems to work pretty well as long as you calibrate it regularly.

Plus the offset would vary according to how many satellites you lock on to.

Position algorithms take care of this factor.

I like the Garmin electronic compass.

Most GPS units have a projection line. Most have distance rings. Lowrance has a projection circle which gives a circle in front of the boat icon of: one minute or 1 mile (other selections available). It would be nice if I could select 10 feet. That is the distance from my cockpit to the front of my boat.

Just thinking out loud folks. This is a doable feature.

Here is something (bearing forecast ring) like I am referencing. This is the Lowrance 1 minute projection circle.

    I just want a 10 footer.

    Default Problem

Canepole. I thought about the same thing but if you put the boat in reverse and start moving it will blow the whole thing because projection line is direction of travel.

In reverse, you use the boat icon, not the projection ring. I don't back up much though.

    Default Ok another example

Crossing the river with current, projection line is actually affected by cross current because it is true direction of travel.

    I know I know.
    You never fish in current.

Still would like to figure out a way that worked.
