This is dependent on what you need your unit to do for you....
If you use your SI unit for mainly finding and marking new structure out to the sides of the boat path...SI is the berries....therefore, DI may not be that important to you....
If your a vertical jigger or drop-shotter...then better DI images would be valuable for picking apart structure and seeing the fish echoes mixed in with the brush...
If you want both...you can buy a dedicated DI unit and (if it's a HB Ethernet model DI unit)...link it to your HB SI unit...
If you want both ...and you don't mind experimenting and you don't need your warranty....you can do as kosmo suggested and get the HB TS3 switch and a dedicated DI xducer and switch between the 2 (HDSI xducer and DI xducer)...depending on what you need to see at the time...
Some in the discussion have said that there is just not that much better DI images with the dedicated DI xducer on the HB SI unit.....I guess that's going to be in the eyes of the beholder...
You tell me...
This is brush with "DI from SI" on my 1197...
This is the exact same brush with a dedicated DI xducer thru the HB TS3 switch on my 1197...
