1 learning tool I use in testing DI...(in my DI xducer experiments) is to drop a buoy to the side of a good brushpile and scan it several times from the same direction...but changing settings each pass...(frequency, DI width, Pallete color, DI enhance settings)...and also scan a little off to the side on some passes...

Why have I not thought of this

The 1 st pix was taken in a different area 2 1/2 hours later than the 2nd and 3 rd pic , I just thought the pic with the tree or whatever looks like a cross was a neat pic . the 2nd and 3rd pic were 2 separate passes . Thanks for pointing it out though.

Thanks gotta fish, what I see now is branches are higher than bottom and goes into water colum but the tree trunk is to right and is farther away than bottom line which shows it is to side of xducer and therefore have to be under bottom line because the signals to side would be longer away on the thin line the xducer sends, would some of you deal with this, this is the way I see it ,am I close to right?

    This is pretty much correct...

The actual trunk is off to the right just a smidge..maybe 1- 4' to the right from vertical...but the limbs stick up into the water column...

I drew up a quick depiction of how the brush in gotta_fish's #2 pic in post #12 actually lies in relation to the boat ...

Remember...the dark blue semicircle is the "dark water column" ...which is comprised of everything that is within the "distance from the xducer equal to the water depth"...

Anything farther away than this value will show against the bottom detail..(such as ...the trunk of the brush is just outside this distance from the xducer)...

(Note: the brush in my depiction is drawn to show position in relation to the boat not to show image size ratio- I drew the brush bigger than it really would be just to show where the trunk lies in relation to the boat...and to show how the upper branches of the brush reach up into the "dark water column")...

Man Rickie you are the man , that sheds some more light on my learning curve. I want to thank you for the pic. A lot of times I see a fish under me and don't take the time to look out to the side if there isn't a real distinct shadow cast .
