That thinking could be applied to anyone visiting a strange body of water for the first time. It shouldn't be a concern whether someone knows the lake or not. At the brush drop, Kevin bumped a submerged stump in Talala Creek knowing it was there, no damage, no harm done. At least this normally submerged stump is highly visible now. Like I said, most of the trees broke off close to normal lake level when they broke. They are visible. Shallow water, boulders near the banks in certain areas can be a problem. I'm interested in fishing the Oologah and the Kaw tourney.

When are you going to come up and fish with me? I've got an open seat in the morning and could come pick you up at the bank when you show up. Bring an ice chest so you can take the creel home.

All of us that were at the meeting decided to fish starting in the fall due to some not liking the hot weather. We stressed at that meeting safety would be first at all tournaments especially the winter tournaments. The wind never blew as hard last Saturday as the weathermen said. I wish we would have had the tournament Saturday, but on Wed and Thursday morning it called for 15-25. No one needs to be on Oologah in that kind of wind. If the weather is okay we will have the tournament on the 5th if it is too windy we won't. I don't want anyone tearing up there boat, getting hurt or possibly killed over a, for fun, $60 tournament. I couldn't live with that. We will make the decision on Wed or Thurs before the 5th.

Like Mark said I understand both schools of thought here, but when all is said and done I think you guys have done a great job considering the risks by watching the weather reports and occasionally canceling the tournaments. I know its not easy planning, promoting, holding, and occasionally having to cancel these tournaments. Especially knowing everyone has made plans to fish them and some may have already paid their entry fees. Just wanted to say thanks and let you know I trust your judgement and appreciate your concern for safety.

Craig if you've got all them crappie corralled up there somewhere out of the wind you better let me in on it. It's not like you to hold out on me. Don't make me have to come up there and find you. If I didn't know you better, I'd think fishin with Bill is rubbing off on you a little. You'd think fishin with Chatt for 3 days woulda fixed that. Bet you won't even let me come and tie up to your boat now when your catchin fish. Come on and fess up, I know your holdin out on us.

Well said Kevin. As for having the Crappie corralled, hardly... I took off yesterday to explore areas of Talala Creek I've never tried. All of them were away from the bank quite a way. I concentrated on water anywhere from 11' all the way to 25'. I found a few spots that had some trees, but after a full 8 hours of fishing, I ended up with 2 dinks. The only regular haunt I hit was you know where and it produced one of the dinks with no other bites. Bill was out there in his boat within 5' of the back of mine and had no hits. He fished all his regular spots and caught about 9 that would keep and several dinks. Spencer Creek on Sunday was better to us. I didn't try any of the brush dropped this last summer, it hasn't produced any fish yet other than a few dinks. Bill is set in his ways and doesn't like to get out of his comfort zone. I had to really coax him to get him to join me at Spencer on Sunday.

I had my daughters last week so was only able to fish with Chatt on Friday. He had invited me back Saturday morning and I had planned to sneak away from the kids for the day, yet I didn't wake up until 6:30. That's oversleeping an hour and a half past my normal, no alarm wake up time. I spent the day in the shop and with the girls.

It's been a few months since I fished oologah but I remember that last December was about the last time I saw a lot of good fish caught there. Surely the lake is not as dead as this thread makes it appear. I figure that Reaper and Whisperer and Odie and the Boys are just keeping that great lake on the down low till the tournament next week. Hope that's the case.

I haven't been out on the lake in a week or so. My son and his family came in from Colorado Springs, he's been stationed in South Korea for the last three years and just came back and is stationed there now. Man my grand daughter Kyla and grandson Jakob have grown so much since I last saw them. They're gonna be some good fishin buddies for sure. Can't wait to get a chance to take them out on the lake. George, since you mentioned how dead the thread has been I thought I'd at least show the last good fish I caught. Wish it coulda been a whole stringer but that wasn't the case. I only got to fish less than 2 hours and caught 5 fish. I know some of the other guys on the lake are catchin fish, I'm just really beginning to wonder if I'm the only Oologah guy that still has a working camera. We need to get together and go fishin sometime George. Holler at me and we'll go.
