Took my retired buddy out yesterday and he proceeded to flat put it on me. We started across from the ramp to hide from the wind and see if any were making their way up the creek. Bill caught a couple of keepers and I got squat. We moved out into the wind at a familiar spot and we caught some more. Moved south to hide from the wind again, I almost lost a rod to about a 5lb drum that nailed my jig while I was fixing some lunch. I caught one keeper there. Moved to an area I dropped a couple of buckets of 1x2 last year, Bill caught two nice ones around 13", hooked a very nice fish, got it to the surface where I saw the size and I jumped up to grab the net. I had the net within two inches of the fish when it came off his jig. I swept the net down into the water trying to grab it and missed. It was a crappie and it was at least 18" and about 10" from top to bottom. It had to go past the three pound range. I think I was more upset than he was as he just laughed it off.
Final count on keepers, Bill 20, me 6. Most fish were still holding around brush 11' - 13' deep in 13' to 15' water. Water temps varied, coves were cooler as the rain Saturday may have had an effect. Water rose a foot from Saturday to Sunday. Seems the best bite was happening in the bigger wind. I don't know if I'll have a chance to get back out until after the Eufaula get together.
Robert, if you can stand being in a smaller boat, you're welcome to join me anytime.
