We are letting out enough line to touch the bottom on occassion. We are slowing pulling the baits thru the water at a determined speed dictated by the bite. Right now it is somewhere at or between .50 to .80mph by GPS. If the fish are hitting short speed up alittle and this will help in getting a good hook set I have found.
During the POST SPAWN period we use this technique but pull the jigs at a higher speed and cover as much bank as we can to find the spread out crappie. When doing this technique during this period we are putting out as much as 14' to 16' of line and pulling the jigs as fast as 1 mph to 1.30 mph. You let out enough line to again bounce the bottom at times.
Hope this helps and Good Luck....Ranger
