Great fish, excellent report, thanks for sharing.
Fished again today on the rap with Jeff, Jim, and Todd, and it was tougher with a few idiots and the Holiday crowd. We ended up with 32 keepers catching them early in 3' to 5' and as the day wore on they moved a little deeper. WT was 72 today....Ranger
I'm buying a place in Eufaula and will be close to Hospital Cove, and the 69 riprap, how are they for Crappie? I wonder if the Catfish are keeping them off the rap now?
How is Eufaula along # 9 today? What is rip rap? Thanks
Rip rap is the large rock the corp places along the shoreline in areas of bridges or other areas they do not want erosion taking place. Crappie are attracted to the rip rap because the gaps in the large rock gives baitfish a place to hide out from their predators.
EVERY species loves the RipRap for the same reason :cheers2
Catfish will be spawning on it anytime now too.
Thanks for the post and pictures. I did get to the lake on Sat. and fished off my dack with no luck; fished around the bank a few hours and only had 4 with only one being 10" keeper.
Sure can't seem to find the fish in Massey point cove.
Back in the mid-90's I used to catch them by the ice chest full at Massey Point. It was great, especially every evening before dark. But the last few years it has been less productive and I don't even try to drive down there anymore. The cove can be good, but its hit and miss there. Next time you are at the cove, try that little culvert at the low water crossing. Good luck!
As far as them slimy suckers as a rule 1 week before and 2 weeks after Memorial Day they will be in the rocks doing their spawning... so if ur into trash fish cork,4/0 hook, no weight, all the shrimp you can get on the hook, fish parallel down the bank 4' to 8' and hang on....time is now... Ranger
Any port in a storm Ranger :biggrin
Had 12 nice keepers Yday eve....some with eggs
Were they shallow or hanging around the 5-8 ft in 11-12' DOW like others had reported?
Were about 3ft deep in 6-7 FOW. May be the last of my crappie caught in clear water for awhile
You must have been up North, it was REALLY dingy and dirty down around Eufaula Cove last weekend. We couldn't find Crappie for fighting with Mr Whiskers if you fished shallow out to about 7' - 8'
Not to mention the water maggot PWC's and pleasure boaters (pleasure for them NOT ME) were EVERYWHERE and kept the boat jumping on what looked like some good spots.
Only caught 2 Crappie. Did get 3 bluecats 4-5 lbs which were fun on the ultralight! The were probably were eating my crappie LOL
Was at Porum Landing....but the water is risin and gettin muddy
A 7 1/2 foot stick and a Carolina rig will slow down the PWC....
Caught 21 & was home by 8 this morning....
Show off :biggrin
Just lucky. Right place..right time
So I decided to take my boat and go fish hunting yesterday. It was a round trip launched 3 times because of the strong winds. I was on the south end and its muddy everywhere, from Arrowhead to Buffalo. The first place I caught 4, 2 nd place not a bite, but the 3 rd place I got into them. The only conclusion that I came up with was if you we're fishing in deeper water than 5 ft you could not get a bite ;) EB
Just incase someone tells you that you catch catch crappie in high muddy water conditions with creeks flowing with debris and logs coming out if them, we caught 40 today. 2-3 inch vis. Black and pink jigs were the hit color. We were fishing in 2-4 fow. We fished a lot if rip rap and done some pulling on natural bank. EB
Did you get any pulling the bank?
Cleaned 15 this morning....7 had eggs
water keeps coming and coming and. . . got another foot at my dock yesterday. lots of water still coming from okc and all towns east . fished below the dam yesterday and crappie were hitting decent in the calmer areas. was doing pretty good till they cracked the gates more.
Yesterday they were hitting pretty good in Longtown area. Fished til after dark, cleaned 14 and a nice cat. Didnt show much interest in any jig variations, so ended up using minnows. Couldnt keep the poles in the water for a little while there. Storm came through this morning, so no telling how the bite is today, but the water rose a good inch or two in the few hours I fished last night. Gonna hit it again today...can taste the fillets already!
How is it in the Eufaula Cove area?
Days like today are hard to swallow. Fished with everything in my arsenal, and the fishing gods just werent having it.
Watched a group fishing across from me haul in 15-20 BIG slabs, on both minnows and jigs. Char and Red/White seemed to be what was working for everyone not named Ben.
The lake is up at least another 2-3 inches since last night. Was thinking of heading up to Dam Site South(or maybe below the dam) in the next day or two. Anyone been there recently who can give a report?
Cleaned 17 Yday eve.....had to get thru the sand bass to catch em. 9-11 fow and very SLOW
Fished Eufaula with Ranger and Odie today we kept 32. Water temp was 75-77 water clarity was 4-5 inches. Blk pink and Blk chart beaver tails. EB
Lake gets much higher, you guys can come by and fish off my porch...........sigh
Stink you mean knock on your door without getting out of the boat ;) EB
Expect someone to be knocking Jim. Don't expect the lake to be back close to normal for sometime yet. We had some really good fish yesterday and if you got on the right bank it was alot of jerking. We caught somewhere around 50 to 60 total crappie yesterday and to do that with good friends enjoying the beautiful day, laughs, and bragging rights was awesome.....Ranger
It is not very often us 3 get to fish together. 9 months out of the year Brian is in school. I am woking shift w work and chasing my boy running. Now Mark he sets his own schedule around fishing. Lol!! But we sure do enjoy going together and we have a good time when we get to go. I cleaned the fish and our biggest 7 weighed around 10 pounds, probably would have weighed over 11 a month ago. Had a blast and I am ready to go again.

A little of both Fishers....Ranger
Fished today with my beautiful wife Judy from 10 to 2:30 and cleaned 39. Technique today was pulling jigs on natural windy points and banks. When you saw the shad hang on you was going to get hammered. Started out using beavers in blk/pink and pum/chart but changed shortly after my wife was catching 2 to my 1 using Bobby Garland Slab Dr's in blue thunder and blk/chart color. They were trying to take the rod out of your hand....Ranger
Took 3 of my former students/players today. We caught 52 pulling jigs in 5-7 ft. Blk and pink beaver tails slab slayers and strollers were the ticket. We caught over a hundred fish all day. If you could bump the bottom a little you were constantly getting bit. Those three kids are college grads now fixing to go to work in July. We had a day of teaching them how to operate the trolling motor, jig tieing 101, to cleaning fish better. It seems like I'm still teaching everyday. They had a blast!
