I've been thinking about getting a f250 so I could pull my camper some other places other than from the lake side store at Enid to Wallace creek. Looked at a gas burner but that thing probably only got 6mpg

Although that is true--I have to get something to pull the boat (and eventually a camper) cuz now everytime I go fishing--she is stuck at the house--it does save me money (she can't go shopping) it cost's me in the long run

    That's pretty impressive--even with a light boat.

    I drive a 2001 250 w/ 160000 rough miles. I really work my trucks and it shows. That said, I will not even think of owning anything but the 7.3. I have a 2000 f350, 2003 f350, 2001 f250 and a 2002 f450. The 7.3 is the best engine I have ever run. Milage on 250 runs from 14-18mpg depending on load/speed.

One found at the rite price is a plus but a F250 gas burner would not kill you no more than you are gonna pull with it. I look at em used all the time and it is a major price difference between the gas and diesel, would take a long time to make up the difference unless you are gonna pull with it pretty regular.
As far as pulling with an F150 there is a fine line in what your are pulling and when you cross it it is down hill in a big way.

I drive a 99 F-250 4x4 with the 7.3. This engine is unbelievably durable. I tow 12,500lbs on a gooseneck 150miles a week and have never had a bit of trouble other than a recalled crankshaft sensor. I has 225k on it now. I run a 70hp superchip that adds 110ft/lbs of torque too. I get 17-19mpg depending on how I drive it while unloaded. FYI. when the tach gets over 2000rpm on mine the mpg starts dropping rapidly! I have a 745 war eagle and cant really tell the differnce in fuel mileage when towing it but it prolly weighs less than 4k. There are a lot of satisfied 7.3 owners and a lot of dissapointed 6.0 owners!

That's what Im thinking about--I don't want to get something then find out--it was the wrong decision. I suppose a gasser will pull just fine--but can't go with 6 or 7mpg that's for sure
