You wont ever be disappointed in the diesel barring a major repair rite off the bat, it just can be done cheaper if you arent gonna pull with it a good bit. One thing about it, ever feel a need to hook to a 40 foot trailer and go you will be able too.

My bil had a 96 Ford 350 dually we rodeo'ed in. Had a big overhead camper on it, four guys and their crap, loaded four horse steel trailer with hay and feed for a couple of weeks. It would get 10-12 which I thought was pretty good, for the weight. He put another motor in it at around 500k. Good old truck.
I've only had Dodge diesels myself, if you get to looking at some of the them, holler, I can probably help you with different models and their plus/minuses. I've owned 90, 95, 96, 98, 01, 06's. All variations of the 5.9s. Buddies have owned the first 6.7s, and I've traveled with them some.
I got a 01 F250 7.3 with 283,000 best truck I'v ever owned get's around 15-17mpg,had to put tranny in at 200,000.If my body stay's staight I plan on reparting instead of buying a new 1 if motor ever goes just gonna get another 7.3 to put in it.
