102% sure you can not link the units. The extra 2% is so you can average it with the 2 guys that were 99% sure.
The fish Elite is excelent. I had a Fish Mark 480, which is the same unit as the Elite without the GPS and the fish finder function was very, very, very good. If I had another boat at the moment, I'd still have the Fish Mark on it. As far as black and white go, it's about as good as you can get at present. The only thing better would be either a Lowrance X135 or X96...can't remember which, but one or the other will have slightly higher output in wattage, but the Elite is plenty for how we fish.
Now, color vs black and white. Other than ease of viewing, the difference will be that with color, you have varying colors to represent signal return. For example a big fish will reflect in red, yellow and blue depending on how strong the signal gets reflected. The black and white does the same thing, but in varying shades of gray so it's not as easy to distinquish. Say you run over a top with fish in and around it, with a color unit, you have a better chance of picking out the fish from the top than with grayscale since all returns will look about the same. Now, that said, if you fish like me, if you run over a top, you're going to fish it anyway whether the FF says there are fish there or not, so having color or not would make no differnce to me as long as I knew there was a top there to fish in the first place.
So...yes, it's a good unit, yes it's a good value at $209, yes, I'd buy one if that's what I could afford and yes, I'd rather have color.
Oh, and Yes, it is made by Lowrance.
Wannabe...
