I'm not getting antsy about February yet, but am looking forward to the trip and fellowship. Felt the need to let you'all know I won't be bringing 5 lbs. of fillets next year due to not having any to bring. My freezer is full of veggies and no room for fillets. I'm hoping Toledo Town has a freezer full of french fries cause that is what I plan on bringing. Thinking about bringing some corn meal coated okra to fry up and maybe a bag of pintos to cook up in the cabin. Pork & beans are fine, but pintos have more protein.

Hope we catch a bunch of crappies for the fish fry too.

Love me some pinto's. If you can't be in Texas to eat them, next best is have a Texan cook them.

I have spent many a day fishing with a Higgins like that....had a braided line on it....and a fiberglass rod.....fished the Pearl river for catfish around Jackson (on the Natchez Trace) before they built the dam for the Barnett reservoir....we would buy a package of frozen shrimp for bait....put it in the edge of the river to thaw......put a big weight on and throw out and fish the bottom....if we didn't have $ for shrimp we would dig mussles out of the sandbars for bait...thanks dad for the memories......

    thanks "G" for sharing.....

    Hey PS,
    Thanks for the history.
I'm to young for pre Barnet but got to enjoy the REZ growing up close to the Pearl. One of my favorite spots washttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mule_Jail_Lake

Got to fish it many times as a adult. Dad was friends with one of the owners.
