    In addition to Greg's test....

It would also be interesting to see the effects of setting the "Surface Clutter" setting to its highest setting (less surface clutter filtering)....and then set the "Upper Range" setting (in the 2d view) ...to not even show the upper 3' - 4' of the water column...

I would think that telling the processor to use less filtering (in any part of the processing)...would allow more data to be used for image rendering...(as long as the effects of each of the specific filtering settings do not cause adverse effects in other parts of the image rendering)...

I'm curious if less "Surface Clutter" filtering (in the 2d view)...would affect the data showing in the SI/DI/ or 360 views...

thanks for the advise greg, you fixed.i had surface clutter set to 1.went out today and just run 2d in shallow water.the unit worked fine.turned the 360 on and there it went again ,wacky bottom readings.then I changed the surface clutter from 1 to 10 and fished all day without problems.thanks

Rickie, theres two things that I noticed today, after turning the surface to 10 from the 1 that I had it set on . actually theres three things.first ,my shallow water 2d worked flawlessly ,while running the 360 . secondly, the scroll speed increased on 2d,while running the 360 . thirdly, I believe the image quality of 2d was better while running the 360.

I'm not sure how exactly these effects were caused by the Surface Clutter setting change...(maybe Greg can give insight here)..

There are several filters in the HB units..."Surface Clutter" , "Noise Filter" , "Switchfire" , (and who knows what others)...

I would have to think that any "filtering" hinders the actual effectiveness of the unit...

While some filters are absolutely necessary to combat certain issues that each is designed to alleviate...there seems to be "shortcut cheats" that may allow the unit to use less "filtering" while still controlling those adverse effects that the filters are designed to alleviate...

My thought was to turn the "Surface Clutter" filter as close to "Off" as the setting would allow (higher Surface Clutter setting of 10 means less filtering)....

Then use the "Upper Range" setting to simply "not see on the display" the extra surface clutter that was going to show in the 2d image from the "Surface Clutter" setting being maxed out...

It is definately interesting to hear your other observations of better unit performace characteristics simply by turning this "Surface Clutter " filter off...

I need to experiment more with this same line of thought with my 1197...

This picture is scroll speed 5,switchfire set to clear and surface clutter 10.(keep in mind, that 2d doesn't function the same while 360 is running)...

    Ok...I'll bite...

Why does the 2d not function the same when 360 is running...??

What do you mean "the 2d doesn't work"? There's a pretty nice shot there, what am I not understanding?

Can you post comparison shots of the 2d with 360 running and without 360 running to give us an idea of the "difference" you are experiencing...??

(Or is the "difference" just in how the unit is performing...??...)
