Reinforce the supports under it and fill it full of water. You'll know real quick if it leaks. What can come in will go out.

One thing you might want to add to your boat, on the railing going fore and aft, is a few sticks of nerf-type pipe insulation laid end to end. This will make your boat quieter and prevent you banging your rod against the boat, telegraphing to the specks that you are above them. One application will usually last a couple of seasons. If it gets gimped up, the stuff is easy to replace and it is inexpensive.
Just my two-cent's worth. You will enjoy your boat and it won't take long for you to get your money's worth out of it.

I got the transom replaced, plywood floors in and starting the camo job. Not finished yet, but ready to fish, when they get to biting again.
Great project boat. I live for finding the project jon boats. i have redone a fleet for dad and friends for bayou runnin, duck hunting, and yoyos. got a few ideas if your ever interested. Good Luck!

Thanks for the interest. As for ideas, it depends on how much you want to spend. because face it its still gonna be the 75 dollar boat you first bought, but what matters most is how much its worth to you. LOL. As for the fishing part idea for the noise reduction on the aluminum. I always go to wal mart and buy hercules bedliner roll in and roll the sides and bottom and front and back facings of the bench seat. I also put wood flooring and covber it also with the liner. The stuff is tuff and great and dries flat black. Plus is hads new life to the boat. For paint, i always use the krylon camo from wal mart. on sale now for 3.99 a can. This paint is really tuff. no primer needed at all. I use the olive green as base and choose the other colors for patterns. usually the brown, black, and light tan. Find some fern limbs if still alive around the house or woods, if not find a plant or tree with leaves that are still alive and in small patterns. Lay it up against the boat and lightly spray over the fern etc. taking one color at a time all the way around the boat. i have pictures of some if you have questions. Hope I helped you in anyway. more ideas too!

Looks like you're having fun with your project boat. There's nothing better than taking a vessel from scratch and building it up exactly like you want. Be sure to let us know if it catches them crappie as well as that yellar boat beside it...![]()
