From one owner of a 1974 vintage jon boat to another. Mine happens to be a Duracraft; I've had it since 1978. Ole ceb saw me in it on D'Arbonne recently. I know you will enjoy your "new" rig. Have fun. Ray
Proud to be an AMERICAN fisherman!

A bad day fishing is always better than a good day at work!
Looks like you had some good help also.:D Be sure to take her fishing in it when you are finished.

I would love for her to be interested in fishing, but she thinks it is boring. She always catches fish and always seems to catch the biggest fish. She does want to start hunting next year, so I look forward to some fun times in the woods with her. I quit hunting after I shot the deer hanging in the background of the pictures for crappie fishing. I hope she enjoys duck hunting as well, she is getting a lab in May for her B-day that I will train. She is my helper for cleaning fish, but that is all. Her mother helps eat them! I just thank the LORD she wants to spend time with her dad doing anything! So I will just become interested in what she enjoys, that is what a daddy should do.
Yes enjoy them while you have the opportunity because in the not to distance future time with Dad will be replaced with time with friends.![]()

I saw a article the other day about Jon boats and how some guys figured the best way to catch good crappie is to go where the crappie is at. My boat is a semi V and 16 ft. and 100 gauge alum. I can go anywhere.
No slap on the big rigs, but they are nice for the big lakes, like the Ranger boats and so forth, but here at Millwood, Jon boats is what crappie fisherman use almost entirely.
My rig I carry a PVC pole I constructed about 10 ft. long that I made and it is for poling if needed, like getting off of stumps or shallow water. I hardly use it but it came in handy a couple of times. Most of the time I run my Johnson real shallow in the backwaters looking for deep holes and just exploring for spawning places.
Jon boats are some what confined for space, but when I get mine completed I will post a photo of it, I have changed it around more than once, but I am close to the way I want it. I solved some of the space problem in the middle.
For myself in my Jon boat it was more of an advantage for me to construct certain areas to one side using plywood or wafer board and light weight alumium covering for protection. It is a must for me to be able to walk from one end to the other end of the boat without tripping over things. When I am done in my crappie or fishing rig there is a place for everything to be placed. The hardest thing to figure out is where to place the big 7 ft. rods I use and the crappie pole. I am not a spider rigger, I just use 2- 3 rods in different lengths for the brush piles.

I have to widen the poles @ the back. The boat is about 1 1/2 inches to wide to fit. The boat fits at the bottom, just not the top. I will heat them up and spread um.
