    Default New Project

I finally got fed up hearing all the fish being caught @ Lake Erling and I couldn't launch my boat(due to them dropping the lake). So I bought me a solution.

1974 14ft. Ouachita Jon Boat for $75. I have a 4.5 Evinrude to hang on the back and will be buying a trolling motor soon. I started a refurb on the boat tonight. I replaced the transom tonight and will fit the bottom with plywood tomorrow. Here are some before pics. I plan on buying a trailer later and will camo it out for duck hunting also.

There is a decent chance that my dad built that boat. He worked there around that time.

The boat seems to be well built. I've never seen a Ouachita Jon up close until now, but looks good for a 74'.

I would run a leak test prior to installing the floor. Good to see another aluminum boat being brought back to life. Keep us posted on your progress. I've had to take a break from mine for the week, but plan to get back after it this weekend.

That ought to take care of the problem, good luck on the project.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

I put it in the water before the purchase. The gentleman I bought it from would NOT let me buy it until he proved it wouldn't leak. If it leaks now, it will be my fault(from relacing the transom).

    If it does leak...3M 5200...or a TIG...the only way to go. :D

    Looks like a great project...I love projects...I have a few to many I think!..lol
"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 25:15
