Thread: Questions about Jig color selection.

I never thought to look on ebay. I looked online at tackle web sites and they were proud of their kits. Thanks for the info. I saw a kit with a rotating vise for a couple bucks more. Those are some good prices.

I like the greys too. Caught a lot of fish at yucatan on a grey ghost and a light dark grey hair jig. I also like a blue/grey there. When fishing tubes blue thunder, blue ice, blue grass and bayou booger and pop sickle have all done well there.

My 2 cents. Does color matter. Sure. Is it the end all. No. What I think matters much more than color is your confidence in that color. I primarily fish with 2 colors. Which are my go to colors. So I guess color matters or I would be using something different. But these are tried and true for me. If I'm catching fish on them no need to change. If I'm not I might change and normally have same results. Obviously their is many colors that work( some don't even make sense) so go with what you believe in. And when in doubt anything with chartreuse usually a good bet . And as for matching the hatch. We all do that a lot and then scratch or head when they bite on colors that don't exist in the wild. Case in point. When was the last time you saw a bubble gum worm swimming by? But bass sure do like them

I just remembered from when I was scuba certified many years ago that colors change once in the water. One of the first to washout is red. When the colors of the spectrum washout they turn different shades of grey. The water bends and filters the light the deeper you go and more colors turn to grey. This proves what was previously said about light and dark colors. Also purple is on the opposite side of the color spectrum and could be the last to lose its color.

Could that by why gray is such a great color.

My all time favorite, Blue Ice, has a lot of grey.

I have always gone by this .... the clearer the water the more natural looking baits and colors I will use. It has to be more realistic because IMO they can see the lure better but that doesn't always apply. If the water is off colored stained, or muddy stick to colors that are darker or brighter such as black and chartreuse or electric chicken (pink / Chartreuse green) I personally find that they have better contrast in off colored water. I have been told also by some very avid fisherman that chartreuse is not chartreuse in murkier water....they claim it has more of a white hue ??? Not sure how true it is but that is the methods use. Nice jigs in the pictures fellas ...I would like to get my hands on some of those grass shrimp ones in a natural brown shrimp color. Great thread fellas!!!

If a lure company would come out with a small grass shrimp jig like a Voodoo Shrimp they would make a killing.
