    I hear ya. If I deer hunted for the meat it would be cheaper to eat Kobe beef and lobster 3 meals a day.........

    I would be scared to figure the price of specklebelly meat per pound. Way more expensive and any steak you could buy, I promise.

    I'd use grass shrimp if you want to take the time. As far as color,I use Black n chartreuse most of the time.HTH

    I think presentation has as much to do with the bite as color, if not more so. Especially when there finicky. May be the prefer a totally still bait, falling at a certain speed or angle. I remember watching my dad load the boat once. Had the same bait, line type and size as him. Not a bite. After teaching me a lesson in humility he finally told me how he was doing it. He always uses a weedless hook. He would flip over an underwater limb and pull the bait right up to the limb and make it bump the limb 4-5 times, then he would pull it across the limb and let it fall. It wouldn't fall a foot and you'd see the slack go out of his line. Bam, in the boat. I tried it and started catching fish. You just never know what they're looking for.
