Hey Kevin do you think a bare 12 ft jon would make it under the bridges you are talking about?

It is a shame there is no public boat ramp there anymore. That is one fun place to fish. I'll add my name to list of those who used to tear up the walleye there. I have tried many times in my boat to access Whitehurst from the LC side with no luck. If you're boat sits low enough you may be able to pull your plug and partially fill your boat. That would allow you to get under the obstacles between the lakes. Then, once in Whitehurst, run your bilge to drain the boat. Even with that trick though, my boat still rides too high to get under the last pipe. I just can't get the trolling motor low enough to clear it. Finally, I haven't tried going through since they did bridge work on Diamond Springs. I believe there may be new obstacles there under the water. I'd sure like to get back in there after the walleye.

I know it's been a long time but I use to be able to get my old 14 ft lowe from one side to the other. That may have changed
Kitt, it's not the bridges you have to worry about. There is an old pipe that runs across the cove when you come out on Whitehurst. I believe it may be an old steam pipe. You might be able to make it under in a small boat. Only one way to find out...
I remember my very first crappie too, ten years old, Lake Joyce on a muddler minnow using a 8' Shakespere fiberglass flyrod. The next day I drove a 1/0 Pecks popper through the top of my ear with that flyrod, my buddy saw it and ran off crying, I worked it back out by myself because I didn't want my mom to see it. I still flinch when I turn that corner at Greenwell Rd and Lake Dr.
This is my first post. I've been lurking around and have enjoyed reading about the specs you all love to chase. I know Whitehurst and I know that canal to get there from the reservoir really well. After the railroad bridge there is a large pipe that crosses the canal. The challenge there is two parts, boat height and boat width. The lake water level seemed high all last year making things that much more difficult. Even the railroad bridge seemed very low to the water. My guess is most boats can't get through. I didn't fish there week in and week out but I never saw another boat on Whitehurst last year. The lake is not closed to fishing there just isn't boat ramp access directly to the lake. I'll try and help if you need info on the canal so just ask
Nice offer, VaBeachbaitboy. By the way, welcome!
