This is my first post. I've been lurking around and have enjoyed reading about the specs you all love to chase. I know Whitehurst and I know that canal to get there from the reservoir really well. After the railroad bridge there is a large pipe that crosses the canal. The challenge there is two parts, boat height and boat width. The lake water level seemed high all last year making things that much more difficult. Even the railroad bridge seemed very low to the water. My guess is most boats can't get through. I didn't fish there week in and week out but I never saw another boat on Whitehurst last year. The lake is not closed to fishing there just isn't boat ramp access directly to the lake.
