The lake was closed after 9/11 thats where the plant is.

The small pit on the west side of the airport is a great place to start. When you go into the pit go to the south end is where the old road bed starts and runs about about 1/2 way heading back and there it turns to the left. If you have a fish finder you can check it out. I use to troll night crawler on a three way swivel on the bottom following the 15 ft drop. Back then the only problem was the white perch was eat the crawlers to. Are you fishing out of a boat or yack. Hope this helps.

The summary of getting into Lake Whitehurst through the canal was a good one, and I concur. However, no change has been made to the spillways, so the lake level hasn't changed. What has changed is how much water we take out of the reservoir for your drinking water. Since Lake Gaston came on line in 1997 we use much less water from the Intown Reservoirs, so the lake level is generally higher than it used to be.

The property that used to have the public boat ramp is owned by the Norfolk Airport, and for various reasons, which include security and safety, they decided not to renew the lease with the City for the boat ramp. However, I have been informed that work is underway to construct a new public ramp into the lake, and it should be open the beginning of 2017, depending on permits and construction schedules. I will pass on more definitive information when it is available.

If you have questions about Norfolk's reservoirs, please ask. I will gladly pass on what I know to make your use of the reservoirs more enjoyable.

Thanks for the update Mr. Rosenthal, being able to fish Whitehurst again was part of my decision making process on staying in Norfolk or not when I retire.

I sure hope they open it back up. I'd love to get in there again. Not sure about the walleye that were left over from before they closed it. They may all have died of old age, but I sure hope the state stocks them again if it's re-opened.

If they open the lake by next year then there should be some hogs!!!!!

I finally got out there and managed to make a pretty good day with 8 nice sized crappie, some throw backs, 6 bass, some perch, and lastly 2 walleyes. I do wonder how old these walleyes are. One was 19inches and the other 20inches. I don't believe those fish can spawn there. That being said, I did have a following fish that really, really, really looked like a walleye but was only 6-8 inches. The lake was closed in 2009 right? I don't know when it was last stocked. Any guesses on age of a 19inch walleye?

Hey guys. I just found this forum today so I'm a newbie. Anyhow, me and my wife just got a house on Whitehurst. I have a kayak launch in my back yard and I kayak fish all the time. I love catching crappie. I also have 5 kayaks and a canoe if someone doesn't have one. Only 1 is made for fishing, but they will still work. So I'm looking to make a deal. Haha. I'll take people fishing with me if yall show me some good spots on the lake. We are trying to be moved in by July 1 and I'm off work alot so if anybody wants to take me up on my offer I'm game for it.
