Progress On My Lake Cabin

Today is sort of a red letter date for me and the cabin, finally have the scaffolding down. It's been up for almost a year, but you have to have it and today I am through with anything requiring the scaffolding, so down it came.

The cabin appears much like it will from here on out, basically finished with the exterior except the trim around the entry door, the picture window, and the patio glass door.

I do have to build and install the rest of the railing for the ramp and the deck/porch, but that's easy and should be done by the end of the coming week.

Notice the light spots at the base of the framework where the scaffolding was attached and prevented me from staining the boards last week. I'll get those spots covered soon and get the rest of the baseboard stained too.

Tonight I will get to see how effective my floodlights are during the dark. I got them installed yesterday but only had test lights (regular bulbs) and those lights weren't up to snuff.

A couple of things I did to take advantage of the scaffolding while it was still up was to clean out my rain gutter and also wash the picture window. Later on routine, I will set up a temporary small scaffolding to wash the big picture window a couple of times per year. I'll have to use the extension ladder to clean out the gutter and I figure twice a year will be enough for that.

Did anyone notice the freshly baked pecan pie setting in the window? I baked it especially for George.......... hahahaha.:D

Looking really good. What are the louvers in the gable end? I was trying to figure out the orientation (N,S,E,W) by the shadows but heck, which way does your house face? And, which side has the lake view?

Scott, those louvers are the outlet for the attic fan which kicks on when the temperature up in the attic reaches 90 degrees. To answer your directional question: The attic fan is on the North Gable, the porch is the West (which faces the lake). The cabin does not set on true North/South lines, it is offset so the West side will face more of the lake shore. The cabin sets on a 045 degrees line and is almost exactly pointing Northeast.

Southern Woman, the pie setting in the window is the pie I'm saving for Cricket George in recognition of his pie stealing abilities. Remember when I warned everyone not to give their pecan pies to George so he could help carry them inside at the "Get-Together"? Oh he's a sly ol fox when it comes to pecan pies.

Rained out yesterday but I got some work done today and almost finished the railing on the ramp. I was able to get the concrete step poured on Monday and that has set up well. I put a mud-scrapper into the concrete and it will help keep the mud off the ramp/deck.

I'm glad to have all the scaffolding down and my flood lights installed. I can sit in the house now and have an unobstructed view through my picture window.
