Water what's going on with the water level at Oologah. I see the gates are open a bit, hope they don't drop it below normal pool. Spawn is too close now

The lake had been below normal since around Nov. 1st but very stable. Best winter fishing in years due to the stable water condition. It has risen 3 feet in the last couple of weeks and stands a little over 1 foot above normal. Discharge is 4200 fps right now. The best fishing during the spawn is a steady lake, even if it is below normal. I just hope it doesn't get high during the spawn.

I wouldn't doubt if the Corp tries to keep it close to normal for a while longer, BUT, if the rains start up, you can bet the Oologah will be the last to start draining the excess. All the smaller creeks and rivers always have first dibbs. I look for the Big O to be close to 4-5' above normal within the next three weeks if we start getting some early Spring rains.

Craig, you are right on. Last year was the first year since 2006 that the lake wasn't 3-10 feet above normal during the spawn. With that said, 2004-2006 and 2010 it was normal or slightly below during the spawn. If it is no more than 2 feet above it is ok. I just don't catch very many if gets any higher during the spawn. That is why I have Eufaula as a back up plan.

I like Eufaula for the spawn. I usually won't fish Oologah until afterwards. More for you guys I guess.

I have fished over the years with some and around some professionals. Let me tell you on Oolagah there is none better than Odie. If he decides one day to start guiding there, you guys better give him a call! When Odie said that the wind was brutal, that was an understatement. Grandkid and I fought that wind for three hours until Odie come got in the boat with us! I told Odie we need to get hid from that wind! He had the perfect spot. I am a Yum man, I fish mostly with beaver tails and vibra's. But I will have a Bobby Garland tray set up just for Oolagah! The last two times we have fished Oolagah the baby shad were off the hook good! Thanks Odie, I hope to return the favor on the big "E" EB

Thanks Brian for the compliment. I am still learning everyday on the water. I have days where the bite is "off" for me. Sorry Craig!! LOL!!! I have kicked around the guiding thing and may try it soon. I just want to be ready, if I take someone out on a guided trip.

Odie, I'll volunteer to be your guinea pig and go with you on your "off" days...from what I've seen, they're way better than my "good" days!! LOL

Fished Oologah today and caught a few. Mostly small ones, but did catch one that was around 14". The bite is definitely better than the last time I went out. A couple of guys in a boat were fishing the area near us, so I guess the lake is high enough for boats to get back in there (Blue Creek). Made me a little jealous watching them just vertical jig around the brush, while I was slip corking from the bank. They even returned a wayward cork to me that I lost in the brush. Thanks to whomever it was! My best producer was a scent wiggler in Chartreuse.

If you guys were going to go to Bait Store to get a couple packs of Bobby Garlands for the Big O, what colors would you choose??? I have a boat load of jigs, but was wondering what the go to colors are right now... Anyone have any wisdom they would be willing to share?
