My brother and I fished Oologah Saturday morning from 7 to 11. We caught 75 fish or so and cleaned 20. We fished brush in 12 to 18 feet of water and caught fish from 10 to 15 feet deep. We only used minnows which is all I ever do at Oologah. I had some fish like Crappie Whisperer had that didn't even bite it, the line just felt heavy or they lifted it up but I also had some that just hammered it. The fish seem to be getting into their summer pattern which is great.

Everybody talks about the spawn but I like the summer better. The crappie are extremely predictable and if you find them you can go back over and over every day if you want and really stack them up. They won't usually move all summer.

What is the summer pattern at Oologah?

I start to see them showing up in brush piles in 12 feet of water or so and as the summer goes on they move shallower and shallower. By August I will probably be catching them 3 or 4 feet deep in 6 to 8 foot of water. The shallower I fish, the bigger the fish I seem to catch. I can usually catch them on the same brush all year if the brush pile is in less than 10 feet of water.

I only use minnows on Oologah because they seem to be far more productive than jigs which is funny because at Eufaula it is the exact opposite. I don't think I've ever used a minnow in Eufaula although I have seen people use them there. They just seem to battle the dinks all day. I should also add that I don't typically spawn fish at Oologah, if I did I would use jigs.

I can catch crappie in deeper water during the summer but I seem to catch mostly small ones and like I said, the shallower I go, the bigger the fish I seem to catch.

I have never tried dipping stumps in the summer on the upper end of the lake although I would like to try one of these days. The thing is I catch so many doing what i stated above that I see no need to go try something different.

Please keep in mind that these are just my experiences fishing the few places I frequent. I'm sure others have found different patterns that work as well or better than mine.

I would like to hear from everyone else about their experiences summer fishing. It appears to me, by the slow down in posts here, that alot of people stop fishing for them in the summer which is too bad because my best and most consistent crappie fishing is during the summer.

I think I'll start another thread on the topic and see how others do during the summer.

Fished yesterday in the middle of the day on some brush in 16 fow and caught several dinks suspended just in the top of the brush about 10ft down. I was using dead minnows because when I bought them I made the mistake of putting the bag in the ice chest on top of the ice. Thought I would keep them cool until I used them. :o

Last summer I dipped the standing timber around the main creeks of the lower end of the lake and had a lot of fun. No big numbers but solid fish. Like you said about the depth, the hotter it got the shallower the bite. I was using jigs. Love that thump! Nothing suttle about it!

Thanks Meatdragger! I found the sticky you started too. Can't go fishing any more since husband had surgery. He doesn't like fishing anyway, but he would go along with me. Maybe later in the summer I might get to go again.

Thanks for the good tips. Until now, I've only fished for Crappie in the winter and somewhat during the spring - but mostly moved to bass fishing. I'll definately be trying to find some crappie on Oologah this summer.

Haven't had a chance to get out in a while so me and my fishing buddy went out to Spencer on Saturday. Our goal was to head to the timber to see if anybody was home, but the boat motor had different plans. Trolled over to the pump while he was toying with the motor found a brushpile and caught two little guys. He finally got the motor fired up and we headed to the timber. We should stand at the pump. We ended up with one dink crappie. Went back and fished a brushpile and caught 5 nice keepers and a couple throwbacks. Jigs were our weapon of choice with cajun cricket and wht/cht being the best colors. When we got to the boat ramp a pontoon pulled up with a basket full. He said they caught them on brush 12-14fow 6ft deep. I gave them the five we had to add on to their mess of fish. Water temp was 78-80. Just hasn't warmed up enough to get them on that timber. I'll probably get back out sat. to see what I can snag.

My cousin and I ran out to the lake after work yesterday evening. We fished minnows over brush in 12 to 14 foot of water. From 6 to 8:45 we kept 19 over 10 inches with a couple of 14 inchers thrown in there. Should have caught more but it took us a little while to find a brush pile that produced keepers but once we did it was pretty steady.
