More like tangles!
It was quite a storm lots of big downed trees in town and power poles were snapped. . . Glad your dock was still attached. . . My neighbors boat was rocked of his lift and blown away. . . Lucky for him it got lodged between two trees not too far away and no damage. . . well at least it's a good summer for the fish. . . . Lol
Once we got Jeff and Allen on "auto catching mode" I went swimming. Lol
We were driving back from Russellville and hit that storm just before we hit the OK border. It was about as scary as I've ever driven in.
I really enjoyed taking Crappiepappa and Ftgibson boy. Our goal was to get papa in them where he didn't have time to get a drink. It took him 2 hours to get all 4 rods baited up at the same time. I bet we caught 3-1 little ones to keepers. EB
Yeah, I was dehydratin pretty good there for awhile. Got so busy my smoke would burn out and didn't have time to re light!
Wareagle69 and I cleaned 45 on saturday from Massey point area.....seemed to be holding on brush about 15 ft deep.....went back sunday after Church and took our wives....they caught a few good ones and we cleaned 11.

Caught a few 5 inch crappie below the dam so I switched to catfishing. Caught 5 blue and 1 channel using shad heads. The average weight was about 4 pounds apiece.
How on earth did you not catch sandies? Lol
Which side did you fish?
Boy this thread sure went quiet. . . Guess you can't catch crappie in tomato soup.
Lol. . . . I have a couple of boats and neither have seen daylight this year.. . . I think I'm about done with the high water now!
Does anyone know if you can put a boat in around hickory point or elm ?
Went out last Friday on the north end in the muddy water. Cleaned 15 pulling jigs in 9-10ft. Pump chart was the best color. The water looks muddy but when you fish it you have around 6 inch vis. Yesterday I guided the south end there's around 2 ft vis down there. We struggled most of the day but ended up catching 15 nice fish. We were pulling jigs in 12-14ff. Pump chart and silver chart www the 2 best colors.
Varmint hunter You can use both Hickory pt and Elm pt boat ramps. EB
Went out for a couple of hours on the north end Tuesday evening with my good friend Wareagle69. We were pulling jigs in 7-9ft. Orange chart was the best color. Water vis was 6 inches. We ended up keeping 20. Probably the best 2 hrs I've had on the north end catching fish in a long time. EB
EB, I see the fish haven't changed their mind about orange on the north end.
CrappieBeater, we use 2 jigs I'm using 1/4s because they troll closer to the depth you put them. Meaning if I let out 12 ft of line I pull close to 12 ft deep. As far as the bigger baits it all depends on if they are eating the bait. If you catch them deep in the roof of the mouth they are eating it. If you are hooking them everywhere else in the mouth down size your bait to see if it improves. When you look to pull jigs scan the bank and see where the fish want to be (don't be stubborn). What I do if I see the fish in 13-14ft Ill stop the boat in 13ft drop my jigs to the bottom till your line goes slack then raise your rod until you get the boat going to .8 mph lower your rod make sure your not bumping the bottom too hard. Keep the boat in 14-15ft. Cover water until you get but then turn around and go right back through them. EB
EB I want to thank you for sharing this information! You didnt have to do that but its really great that you did. Not everyone is willing to share info but Its great when we do on CDC. Personally I got a ton of good from your discription of "pulling jigs". I live and fish in Kansas but this technique works well here also when targeting fish that are holding on a rocky break line like along a bridge or levee rip rap. Im kinda assuming this may be the structure you have been fishing on Eufaula based on your discription. Either way I wanted to commend you for sharing, thats what makes this site so helpfull to everyone. Keep it up and Good Luck To You Sir!
EB that's fantastic help and I concur, thank you for going into the details. VERY much appreciated
Beater I hope it made sense, had a good friend of mine and fishing guide Todd Huckabee tell me how to do that on the phone before one of my guide trips. He said just listen to me. I did exactly what he told me and we caught over 50. That was 3 years ago. Since then we have been learning more about the technique every summer. EB
New to the forum, does anyone know of any places to fish around Porum? We have a lake house right by the Marina.
Love it man I want to try it this coming weekend , sure appreciate it.
I fished porum landing last Saturday and it was really really high! If you have a boat go North under the bridge there are two coves just north with a lot of standing timber, good channels good cover. We caught a lot of big sandbass, I just didn't mess with the crappie as I was with some kids I wanted to keep busy in the heat so we could leave early with a mess of fish! But it's fishy. If you don't have a boat get on that rip rap on the Windward side and pour it goes around the ends under the bridge where the current created you'll likely catch fish against the piling a between 8 and 15 ft deep. I accidentally pulled a couple of crappie out of their trolling
Thanks for the tip! I know exactly where you speak of. What were you using to catch the sandies?
White deep diving Bomber Model A with Red or Blue Eyes. The KEY is to get below the little guys and run 8' - 12' deep, sometimes they were 15' deep but would come up to it.
IF the water will clear up any deep diver that looks flashy and like a shad will work too. White worked well in the muddy water.
The ones I caught averaged around 2lbs and some were bigger. IF you have kids or folks who just need to catch fish or they get bored use a shallow runner, same colors, and something that runs around 3' - 6' and they won't be able to keep it in the water, LOL :-)
FYI, the bigger fish were holding 10-15' deep in 20-25 FOW, find the channels and work them over. Little guys and most shad were 3-6 feet. Remember the lake was UP 10' when I recorded these depths.
Good luck , FYI, crappie are there too. 8'-15' tight up against the standing timber. But they are mixed with the more agressive sandies.
Good luck and save me a few just in case i get bored chasing those deep crappie :-)
I really appreciate your help! I will report hoe I do in a few weeks
Wish you good luck, be safe
How high is the lake?
I checked today and it was still right at 10ft above normal.
Anyone get an eye on any of the creeks??? Is Gaines Creek at Hickory Point launchable??? Thinking maybe it is with the somewhat long steep road to the tiny ramp.
It useable Nip. Along with Elm and Arrowhead. Not sure if HWY 31 is yet with 10' high water.....Ranger
I wonder if they have crappie in Tahiti?
Went out Tuesday and it was pretty slow on the crappie. We ended up with 10 keepers and lots I mean lots of Sand bass. Boys there are literally thousands under the I40 bridge right now. We were catching them 2 at a time. They are right on the points in 8-14ft EB
What kind of jigs does a guy need to smash some sandbass I need to get a couple kids catching some fish
It's tough to beat a white Blakemore road runner. Or 2 inch white curly tail Jig. I personally like crank baits when the waters muddy like it is because of the vibration And they rattle so shallow running white crank baits are my favorite today [emoji1]
But all of these work we'll!
should not be ignored
Mudbuddy....anything with charteuse.....we've used Mikes customs and Bobby Garland.....like EB said they are all over the points there
