TimY,
I agree we need to avoid overpopulation, but I still like to turn those big females back, they has lots of eggs, good genetics, and from what I read deposit them in multiple nests.
You has been hammering them lately, great fishing.

Got to the boat ramp right after daylight yesterday morning and already 5 boats on the water before me. Think some guys sleep in the parking lot. Lake was dead calm and water temp was 40 deg and almost muddy. Fished 5 1/2 hours and only managed 14 keepers between .75 and 1.4 lbs. Tons of smaller fish suspended around 10 ft ate us alive. Bigger fish were schooled right below them. Bite was really slow during the morning hopefully the afternoon bite picked up for everyone. Running 5 poles with double minnow rig and could only pick up a keeper every 15 to 20 minutes. Would have been better off settin up a hot dog and hamburger stand in the boat parking lot.
Same for me on sat as your post. Did have a great day fri, Hit and miss as usual.

Are there still clouds of shad
Yes there are so many you cant hardly see the piles or scan for fish.. The whole lake is that way it seems for me.

X2. It doesn't look like we are gonna have enough cold weather to have a big shad kill this year. They have thinned out some along the rip rap and went into the channels but there is still a ton of them. Tried to fish some open lake brush piles but that's pretty much useless with all the shad. Between them and high winds they are really keeping the lake stirred up.
Bringing Nip up Saturday for a day. He'll help clean out the smaller fish![]()
