First off, I am very sorry for your loss. I was almost In the same boat as you 5 years ago. My wife was active duty Navy and went to Sewells Point for a standard checkup. The doctor noticed an irregular heartbeat, or so she had been told she had for many years by Navy doctors. The doctor thought it could possibly be more, so he sent her to a cardiologist at Ports. Naval. What they found was she had an aneurism of her aortic valve. It was twice the size it should have been. After a few months, which seemed like years, of appointments, they decided she needed to have a mechanical heart valve replacement at 37 years of age. I will never forget when they told us this, as I collapsed right there in the operating room where they had just done her catheter through her femoral artery. Norfolk General did the surgery and other than a lot of medicines prescribed for the rest of her life, she is good as new. It is so easy to take my wife for granted and not let her know how much she means to me, for I feel she knows, but I will make it a point to tell her and show her every day. I cannot imagine what you have gone through these last few months, but am glad to see you have not turned to destructive things, as so many do.
