Help me understand this. You folks are frustrated because you are limited to 3 poles if you fish by yourselves. So you want to take folks with you "in the back seat" so that you can fish with 6 poles and probably catch fish quicker with a better spread. If you can only keep 15 fish, how long will it take? Oh, I forgot, with the ringer in the back seat for 6 poles, you can now keep 30 fish. Is it really the number of poles, or the number of fish that's causing the frustration?

For me the # of poles... I like to pull cranks. And pulling just three poles will make my boat go in circles....LOL

number of poles==I rarely get a limit or even keep fish for that matter--I usually give then away to the one's who haven't caught anything at the ramp or throw them back-- and when I do it usually takes me ALL day long to catch what I do. I have spend alot of time and money getting set up properly so hate to have it change. I like to fish for big fish and dont really care to catch small fish. Bottom line it's my preference and should stay that way--within reason of course--the main reason this sticks with me is the principal of it and the reason it was changed.

The pole limit is due to the overfishing of the lakes. Enid and Butla aren't fished as hard as grenada and sardis. hence the pole limit to take some of the pressure off the lakes. These decisions are based on bilogical data, fish shocks, gill net studies, and spawn numbers. These factors are considered against 30 years worth of trends and data, and they make the most informed decision. From my understanding, the pole limit is just to deter people from traveling to fish this lake if they want the greatest odds of catching a limit of fish. Allows the fish a while to re-establish thier population. Maybe it's coincidence with the letters and all, but I think with the low water levels the past years and the lack of strong spawns has a ton to do with this decision. Ron's job is to maintain a trophy class fishery, and he has all the tools at his disposal to make an informed decision. I think he knows what he's doin, just isn't going to make everyone happy. Heck, I don't like the 3 pole rule, but at least we can fish during the pre-spawn and spawn. I think John is going to go speak with Ron G. this week, maybe he'll be able to shed a little more light on the subject.

It's strictly the number of poles for me. I too like to pull cranks and pulling just three seems like a waste of time. I hardly ever leave a lake with fish in a cooler. I give them away at the ramp or put them back in the lake.

Almost seems to me that one contradicts the other

I mean, if reducing pole to 3 were a solution, wouldn't leaving size at 12" (+) have also been of benefit?
