Double meaning double duty. Kill two birds with one stone, but I may try the bait casters with my new set of C&C 16'ers.

It's all personal preference. I prefer the small open face spinning reels. I tried baitcasters and didn't like them mainly because the weight of the reel wants to make the pole sit upside down in the pole holders

I just purchased 10 of those quantums from sportsman guide a few days ago for 19.97 each and it was a free shipping weekend to boot. Thanks for the heads up on that guys.

I prefer the small baitcasters as well. I used the cheap $7 crappie reels for a year and hated them. Found a couple wholesale lots of remanufactured baitcasters on the bay and never looked back. I got 4 Shakespeare Axioms for $75 shipped and 2 Pfluegers and 2 Pinnacles in another lot for $115 shipped. I only use 6 rods max so I kept the 2 nice Pfluegers for bass reels. I use Hi Viz 12# for main lines and a 2 jig capps/coleman set up with 8# for the rigging.

No you can use your thumb to turn the spool back and it will lock the spool just like you turned the handle.
Really wish someone would come out with a smaller tear drop thumb release bait caster just for spider rigging.
If the fish aren't bitting just remember your not at work ! :D

If you're using a baitcaster with a flipping switch you can set it to on ,press the thumbar , thumb the spool to the depth that you want, and let off the thumbar and the spool will lock from the flipping control. All with 1 hand!! I think!!

Baitcasters for pushing 10 FOW or less. Makes landing those slabs on short lines and long poles a whole lot easier. 10 lbs Hiviz Viscious main line & 6 lbs Vicious clear or moss green for double or single rigs. Small spinning reels for fishing deeper water if I may be also long lining in the morning and pushing during mid day like BRM said (double duty). Wish I could find 10 of the older bait casters that had the flipp'n switch. Would be sweet to have it and not worry about turning the handle to lock it back in.
