Gotta think about gas prices too, sure would be cheaper to recharge batteries if ya already got the TM for the job. I've personally only used the outboard, but would love to use battery power.

I talked to a couple mechanics and did alot of research online about pulling cranks with my 90 HP 4-stroke Yamaha. The verdict was... If you get the motor hot before you idle for continuous hours and run the dog out of it after you idle all day you should be fine. The reason is the motor could have a problem called "Making Oil". Basically the motor is not hot enough to burn off all the water condensate, gas, etc and this water slips into your oil. If you run continuously your oil could get too thin and damage your motor. If the motor is real hot before and after you should burn all the water off.
I put a bunch of hours on my big motor last year pulling cranks. I really don't like putting 6 or more hours on a motor every time I go out to pull cranks. The Terrova 24v 80 lb Ipilot is the best money next to SI that you can spend. It is much easier to stay on course, fight fish, and saves you hours on your big motor. It is real hard to pull cranks by yourself with the big motor. Now with the terrova I could pull 10 at a time by myself with no problems. Lets face it, yes the big motor can and will pull cranks but they were build to run from point A to point B not to idle all day long.
The mechanic I talked to had a guy bring him boat in from lake caroline that had this problem. It was a party barge and all he did was idle around the lake all day and never got it in the high RPM. He was able to revive the motor with some Ring Free but it does and can happen to your boat.
Btw, I put Ring Free in my boat everytime I fill up just in case. It is suppose to help.

My toon was doing that same thing a couple years ago. Thought I had a busted block or bad head gasket until I did a google search and found out about "making oil"

what about putting a troll a matic on a 25hp ?? I tried some trolling last year and it wouldnt get under 2.0 to 2.5 mph, tried a drift sock and that just didnt work out good for me, plus it almost stopped me and I had to give the motor more throttle, wound up being to much hassle. I 99% percent of the time use my ipilot setup but was wanting a back up if the batteries start to weaken and Im not ready to go home
