Remember those clearly. We where on a party line - two longs and a short ring for us to receive a call. We were rural folks. Still am a rural folk. Aggravating to pick up phone to call a girlfriend and there was folks talking to each other - sometimes for several minutes, or an hour or so. Another slick thing did was that when calling big cities (Dallas for example with an area code of 214 at that time), they kept the area code with digits where you didn't have the spin the dial as long. All area code numbers were short with less stokes on the dial.

I tend to notice such things.
