I just wish they would implement some sort of limit on Harris like Jordan. It's amazing the difference between Jordan and Harris. Harris could become just as good as Jordan and take some of the fishing stress from Jordan.

Most guys here on this NC forum are responsible. Never kill more than they eat. I can vouch for Matt (BR HUNT). He's a stand up person and fisherman.

Just get him on, then we'll worry about getting him in!

Nature caused the shad to die and then many of the crappie starved to death the next Summer. The biologist stated they are not at all concerned about fishermen taking a limit--they are just worried about water temperatures. The biologist have already done their testing this year and the crappie population is still improving. They usually net around a thousand crappie, so they have a good sample population. Right now the biologist advice is to stay the course.
JordanLimit: During your past talks with the officials did they happen to mention what may have caused the collapse at Harris? I remember Harris being the winter spot but don't hear much anymore.

I personally think Harris has been beat down with people taking coolers full of fish from that lake. I have been at the ramp on more than one occasion and watched these guys unload coolers that were packed to the top. Usually 5-7" fish. Since there's no size limit or creel limit it's a catch all you can fishery. I've only lived here for 14 years and I can see a big difference at both lakes. One good and one bad.

You're correct....that is what a forum is for. However, when you reply to MY post with those types of comments, it's a personal attack on me and the way I fish, my morals and my ethics, which is why I suggested you start your own thread on the topic. Your concerns are valid as well as your opinion, just better ways to share them than you've selected. I'll leave it at that.

I'd like to thank the rest of my CDC brothers for the kind words! A lot of you guys are the reason I'm the fisherman I am, and I try to pass along what I can. Now lets not continue to beat this dead horse and go catch some some fish!

    BR Hunt,
First let me apologize to you if you felt that my post was directed at you, that was not my intention. For that sir I apologize. I'm just a concerned fisherman who has been reading these post for the past several weeks of everyone posting keeping limit after limit. For every one that post I bet there are 10 who don't and are catching limits as well. Contrary to what some on here may believe I am an informed sportsman. My favorite lake to fish is Buggs Island (Kerr) which is in both VA and NC. This lake is still a very good fishery but nothing like it used to be. Several factors for sure but coolers full of fish taken out by allot of people each spring needs to be considered. Same thing in this situation where the fish have grouped up in their winter home. Yes crappie produce allot of eggs but I believe anyone who thinks you cannot over fish them needs to be better informed themselves. Enjoy the resource and be responsible. Best of luck to all.

As to the question about Harris--the Wildlife biologist that covers Jordan does not cover Harris. In talking to others, they say the Wildlife guys encourage to keep all you can on Harris because it is overpopulated. That was 2-3 years ago and may not be the same situation as now. I know we had a crappie tournament scheduled for Harris last year and ended up moving it to Jordan. Maybe now that Jordan has rebounded, it will take some pressure off of Harris and the population will recover. If I get any kind of informaiton I will pass it along.

I agree with you Roy about overfishing. Seems like people today share way to much info. The best fishermen I know are also some of the best liars I know. I got two people who I share info with and its mutually understood to keep hush about it. Most fisherman these days seem to have to advertise their fish.

Based on what I saw at the bridge this week and over the years, the majority of folks probably weren't taking home limits unless they stayed all day. There were a good many shorts and there were a lot of boats doing more fishing than catching. Subtle nuances can make a difference.
